Man’s Apartment Complex Pool Story Shocks Internet

A man revealed in a now-viral video that he overheard some unsettling conversations during a recent trip to his apartment complex’s pool.

The video was posted to TikTok by Greyson (@guyinhiscar), who wrote: “Love my neighbors.” It has amassed over 1.2 million views and thousands of comments from shocked viewers venting about public pools.

“Apartment complex pools are ethereal experiences,” Greyson said at the beginning of his video.

“I went down to my apartment complex pool because I’ve been told to live in the moment more and because I also hate myself,” Grayson joked, before sharing the unsettling conversations he overheard during the outing.

“I took my shirt off, and the couple sitting next to me, I could literally hear them go, ‘Oh, I was expecting something a little bit nicer,'” he recalled.

“Five minutes later, a little girl goes, ‘Hey mom I have to go the bathroom,'” Greyson continued. “The girl’s mother goes, ‘Number one or number two?”

The girl clarified that she had to go “number one,” to which her mother responded: “Oh, just go in the pool, honey. The chlorine kills all the bacteria.”

Grayson ends his video by making an exasperated expression at the camera.

The Truth About Peeing in the Pool

Unfortunately, peeing in public pools is a relatively common phenomenon, according to TODAY. However, experts warn against this behavior, as it produces an “irritant” that causes “red eyes.”

“When we go swimming and we complain that our eyes are red, it’s because swimmers have peed in the water,” Michele Hlavsa, chief of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) healthy swimming program, told TODAY. “The nitrogen in the urine combines with the chlorine and it forms what’s known as chloramine and it’s actually chloramine that causes the red eyes. It’s chlorine mixed with poop and sweat and a lot of other things we bring into the water with us.”

Speaking to Fox 10, Hlavsa advised: “Swimmers should use the pool to swim, the restroom to pee, and the showers to wash up before getting in the pool. It’s that simple.”

TikToker Takeaways

Many viewers were stunned by Grayson’s story, stating the video persuaded them against visiting their complexes’ pools.

“Oh my lord so traumatizing,” Dylan Moore commented.

“Not gonna lie, I was [about] to go to my complex pool, [and] now I have confirmation why I never go,” edcaliofficial wrote.

“Now I’m never going to my complex pool,” Call me L added.

Others, meanwhile, used the video as an opportunity to vent about how gross public pools are.

“Bruh the apt pool I used to live in would have floating diapers and ducks swimming in it. You living bougie,” Jacqui Coleman claimed.

“Ever since my parents built a pool I refuse to go in public pools because of this very reason,” kylie said,

Kt added: “I’m a pool inspector with the health department and from experience, I will never ever swim in the majority of apartment pools.”

Newsweek has reached out to Grayson for comment.

A new poll revealed that nearly half of Americans are actually looking forward to “having fun indoors this summer.” This may be a good thing, as at least one-third of public pools in the US are at risk of being closed this summer due to a national lifeguard shortage.

Bernard Fisher, director of the American Lifeguard Association told Newsweek: “Regretfully, it’s probably going to be the worst summer. We have 309,000 public pools in the US but we don’t have the youth in the ratio to the population.”
