Elliot Page marks milestone with passport photo: ‘Never thought I would love a passport photo’

Elliot Page seems very pleased with his new passport photo.

The 35-year-old actor, who uses he/they pronouns, shared the photo for his new passport, which presumably reflects his proper gender identity and name change.

In the photo, the Juno star donned a black T-shirt over a silver necklace.

Their dark hair was cut with bangs that rested in the middle of their forehead.

The Inception actor wasn’t smiling at the photo, which is standard for Canadian passports, as Page was born and holds citizenship in the country.

He captioned the snap, ‘Never thought I would love a passport photo.’

The new passport photo marks another milestone in Page’s life since coming out as transgender back in 2020.

After coming out, the star ended their relationship with their then-wife Emma Portner.

The actor is currently believed to be single after they filed legal documentation with a court in Manhattan seeking to dissolve their three-year marriage to 26-year-old professional dancer Emma in January 2021.

Emma ‘proudly’ supported her partner’s decision to come out as transgender, and later confirmed the pair had split before the news was made public.

In a statement made to DailyMail.com, Elliot and Emma revealed that they actually ‘separated last summer’, before the actor came out as transgender, and decided to make the official split.

‘After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,’ the statement said. ‘We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.’

Before releasing a statement, Emma and Elliot removed all images of one another from their respective Instagram accounts in what appeared to be a very clear message about the future of their marriage.

Elliot and Emma are still following one another on the social media app however.

In a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Elliot opened up about the way his life post-transition has ‘improved drastically.’

Elliot explained that he had been reflecting on, ‘very difficult times in my life, certain struggles and obstacles and all that and I think ultimately getting through that it really deepens your empathy.

‘I think of the times in my life where I was the most uncomfortable. Where I was the most unwell, those were the times where I was the most angry. And I was the most unkind to myself or self-righteous or all of those things. It’s improved my life drastically,’ Elliot said.

He added, ‘I hope maybe people who do have an issue with me could maybe try and hear that and embrace that on some level.’

Elliot's character was previously called Vanya

Seth asked them how they dealt with negative reactions to their transition, though Elliot said they want to focus on ‘degree of joy’ they feel that has been extraordinary.

‘What I want to focus on right now, and has been so extraordinary is the degree of joy that I feel, the degree of presence that I feel, I feel a way that I really never thought possible for a long, long time,’ Elliot said.

‘That’s really what I’m focusing on and embracing the most. But of course the moment can be overwhelming,’ Elliot continued.

They added the negativity is ‘Unfortunate, because we are all on the same team here and you know whether you are trans, non binary, gender-nonconforming CIS, we all have these expectations and these sort of limits and constraints because of us, sort of people’s obsession with the binary and how we are all supposed to live our lives.

‘To me it would be so special for us to all be able to connect and to talk about how similar we are in all of our journeys,’ they added.

Since coming out, his character on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy has transitioned as well.
