Great list–thanks for posting it and (by asking a question), adding to our knowledge.

Now to answer your question….the only commercial treats I give my dog are Zukes, Wellness, Newmans and Dogswell. I’m looking forward to trying the 3-dog bakery stuff though–heard very good things about that. And I’ve had mixed results with Mother Hubbard’s biscuits–what can you say, each dog has their own tastes and my current one doesn’t go for them.

The other point that I’ll make to other readers on this list is that almost all treats are too big. We (humans) tend to think of a treat as a dessert. But it shouldn’t be. It’s reinforcement for doing something right. A dog comes when called. You act enthusiastic, pet it and then give it a treat. If you hold out the treat first, you’re just luring. But if you do the other stuff and then treat (and with something small–all of my treats are either the size of a Zuke’s mini-treat or I cut/break them up into small chunks about that size), the dog is associating “hey, when I come when called, I feel good!”

I usually buy my dogs natural rawhides and give them carrots and apples as treats. I’ve also given them liver biscotti when I can get it.
