You’re going to have to shop on till you find that perfect toy for your maltese. Mine likes a small squeeky ball he can bite and bring back to me.

There are toys that dispense a few kibble at a time when the dog rolls them around on the floor. My dog loves them.
There are a few styles out there, get a couple and change them out so that he doesn’t get bored.

I have small dogs too, and on a lark I purchased some of those raw beef bones from our local specialty store. I had them get me a bag of small pieces, and that was the best pooch pacifier ever. My dogs will sit for *hours* while I do chores and work at those bones.

As for a fun toy, most small dogs seem to really like “bobo”, the loofah dog from those PetSmart commercials. They have them in all sizes now, but mine seem to prefer the medium-sized ones that have the squeakers in the belly and the nose.

The i-cube also kept my mini-dachshund entertained. It’s a cloth box with holes and you stuff brightly-colored squeaky toys inside. They then have to figure out how to get the toys out. Of course, my little dachsie is brilliant and figured it out super-fast, but as long as I have the energy to re-stuff the cube he’ll play with it. And he is one of discerning toy taste too.

I have a 7 month old toy poodle and she loves anything fluffy and squeeky! She has lots of little stuffed animals she carries around. I used the Teanie Beanies McDonalds put in their Happy Meals awhile back, when she was a baby. But now that she’s bigger she has the full size Beanie Babies. She loves them! She cuddles with them and if they squeek, even better! She also likes to play with her little balls that have bells in them. Each pup is different, just get a variety of toys and figure out which is your pups favorite.

What are you stuffing the Kong with? Try putting some healthy treats such as diced up Natural Balance turkey roll, and mix it with peanut butter or cream cheese.
You can get him pig ears, bully sticks, or Busy Buddy toy - the disks that are purple you can dice up healthy treats and twist it so the holes are the right size.

i have a terri-poo - and he has NO interest in the Kongs.

But he loves the Silly Slammers from about 1998 - they are soft, and if he throws them up in the air, or bites it just right, it talks or makes a noise.

For a Maltese, you might want to get a small one - a mini.

just be sure to cut off anything he might swallow, or that could hurt him. you know, like eyes, or hard plastic or metal.

I would want to do the same for my maltese, but alot of the toys were too big, or hard. I would get him cat toys. Check that out. Muffy just loved this springy thing with feathers and bells, so maybe try the cat section.
