Dog Questions

Okay lets start from the top I have this friend that was teased by his father. His father gave him this nickname which he wont tell me but he gave me hints and I cant find the answer. So these are the hints. His father nicknamed him after a stuffed dog toy that was for girls. The dog had long hair and a bow. The whole point of the dog was that you could do its hair and it came out around the same time as the pound puppy (the 80’s). But it wasnt as nearly as popular as the pound puppy thats why its so hard to find the name. As from what Im being told the song for the commercial was “__ __, __ __, __ __ for girls” Everyplace you see the blank that is the name of the toy. I think its two words or two syllables but Im not quite sure. Yeah Ive been thinking long and hard but cant figure it out. Now he will tell me if my guess is correct once I come up with the correct answer. Please anyone, someone help me! He is trying to hold this to his grave unless I figure it out!
Also Ive been googling like hell on 1980s toys I keep getting a dead end.
