dog toy

first i want to thank some of you for helping me out with my other air travel question… made me feel a bit better about my baby flying… i just read on the website that she is allowed to have one dog toy in her crate with her… she s too big so she ll be in cargo… she has major seperation anxiety (im not just naming a random disorder she really has it and to a major extent)… this scares me because i know she is just going to freal out and be so scared… of course if i didnt have to bring her i wouldnt… but im moving from CA to PA and theres no other way for us to get there… and i dont want to give her anytihng to calm down because i ve read many things saying it s dangerous during air travel. plus she has a heart mumur.. whats the worst that could happen? if she freaks out to the most whats the worse that will happen? our flight is 7 hours with one lay over. i mean once she sees me all the scare is going to go away and she ll be ok once again right? what toy will calm her?

I think that she would probably like her favorite toy in there to calm her down, as for her anxiety, I had a dog that was also really anxious and the vet told me to feed him a teaspoon of benedryl to calm him down. I dont know if this would be good for your dog or not, but it worked for mine. Talk to your vet because chances are she probably has a solution

no toy will. put a piece of clothing that you wore and havent washed when you go to the airport. I work at the airport and no toy will help the unknown sounds sights and smells of the airports. leave the clothing with your scent on it to calm her. Good Luck and may the airlines have a good day on your travels.

Anything she can NOT chew up and swallow, which could cause choking. Nyla Bone is a hard surgical grade plastic that will keep a dog busy, but they will not be able to get pieces off it. Good luck.

7 hours is pushing it. What breed is she? Contact a regional rescue group for her breed and ask them if they could help arrange transportation by car for her. I have a Siberian Husky who has SA and I had the same concerns when I thought we were going to move across the country. A Siberian Husky rescue group said they could help by arranging Husky rescue groups to transport her from region to region so she wouldn’t have to travel in the plane.

I’ve shipped dogs and have had dogs shipped to me. The best thing is to sleep with a blanket for like a week, (just a small one) and then put that in her kennel with her. This will give her the comfort of having your smells close to her. It will also help the transition into the new house as well.

I do the same thing when I have had puppies shipped to me from rescue homes and breeders. I send a blanket from my house that me and the other animals have used, and then have the person use it in the kennel for a couple of days before they ship out. Then the blanket is shipped in the kennel with the dog. Makes them more familiar.

You are right about the sedative. It’s not safe to give on the flight. A lot of times it doesn’t work or it actually has a stimulating effect.
    Best of luck!

A piece of clothing with your scent on it to calm her.

You can also ask your vet for some tranqulizers my lab also has major seperation anxiety and when ever i travel or move I always give my baby one tranqulizer pill wrapped up in cheese her fav treat and it calms her down for eight hours.
pills a bit expensive but worth it.
