Please make sure you are financially able to handle the cost of a dog. I have 2 Siberian Huskies, and while I love them to death and spoil them rotten, they are not always inexpensive to care for. In addition to the cost of their food (I don't buy the cheap brands that WalMart, etc. sell - while they won't kill your dog, they are not that great for your dog), there is the expense of treats, toys, leashes, collars, etc., not to mention shots and routine visits to the vet. I have both of my dogs on a pet insurance plan through PetSmart, which costs about $50.00 per month for both dogs. A couple of days ago, one of my dogs received a 1 1/2 inch laceration to her left side which required 8 staples to close, in addition to the antibiotics she has to take for the next several days. This little trip to the vet cost me $218.00, but would have been over $400.00 if I had not had the pet insurance. You have to make sure you are prepared for the unexpected. Sure, you can get by a lot cheaper taking care of a pet, but if you care for them properly, it can be expensive at times. Good luck with your new pet!

I shop for most of my dogs' (Border Collie mix, who is 7 and a Chihuahua, who is 2) stuff at Walmart. They will only eat the OL Roy high protein dog food and the prices on the rest of the stuff is relatively low. Good luck!
