a toy like the rope thing to help its teeth and to play with a water and food bowl….a leash……a collar…..a bed…….if you are keeping it outside a dog house…….and thats it…..plus food and water
Do your research before you just buy a dog. Chihuahuas are hard dogs to train, and if you don’t have a reputible breeder you might end up with a dog you can’t handle. If you really want a dog, go to your local animal shelter and rescue one. If you just want to look cool with a dinky dog in you purse, don’t do it.
well, dishes for food and water that are appropriate for the size of the dog; leash and collar; small travel kennel in case you need to take him in the car to the vets etc or even a pet duffle travel bag which are light; maybe a soft dog bed as a place for his own; treats; brush for grooming; nail clippers; for chihuahuas in colder climates he might need a doggy coat since they shiver very easily, toys…….and he wil need a safe place to run around and do his business outside (if you live in a house). having some soft blankets on hand are handy for little puppies as they cant stay warm as easily as adults.
Food, Bowls, Toys, Blanket, Bed, Treats, Leash, Collar, Set up an appointment w/ a Vet.
Get a crate, w/ a dog that small, you are garunteed piddles for awhile.
Sign it up for classes. If not, you will have one of those chihuahua’s that try to kill everything it sees. it’s gotta get socialized.
buy some “nature’s miracle”, it rids of potty mistakes and is non toxic.
get something for it to chew on, or it will find something of yours.
good luck.
A water bowl with water
Food bowl with food
A doggy bed
Chew toys
treats
harness/collar With tags
leash
a crate if you want to crate train
a coat (if desired)
The basics are - food, leash, and collar (ID for collar too - include your dog’s name and contact number). Do you plan to crate-train your dog - if so you’ll want to get a crate and some yummy treats for training. Because you are looking to get a Chihuahua, the crate you need to get won’t need to be too big - just enough for your dog to stand up, turn around and lay down in.
When we got our dog, we immediately gave him a blanket that’s just his own - with our scent and his scent on it. And when we have to board him, we make sure this blanket is with him (for security). This blanket is in his crate.
You may want to check into getting a few toys up front - i.e. puppy Kong. As you go along with the dog, you’ll know what kind of toys your dog prefers - for instance - my dog prefers squeaky toys, tennis balls and plush toys (I have a lab).
You may also want to pick up a book on Chihuahuas too.

Food/water bowls (I prefer the stainless steel or ceramic type - less chance of allergy to some plastics)
Toys of different size/shape/texture for stimulation
A good quality Premium puppy food (no convenience store brands)
A collar/harness and leash + engraved nametag w/identification & your address/phone number
Puppy pads for house training
A good puppy book if this is your first experience with owning a dog
Good luck!
