dog kennels

i’ve never done it. the last time i went to thailand and left them with a mate. he has a nice house with a big garden. Hes now not willing to do it anymore. he said its too much work (he wanted a dog too!?!?) so im thinking now, maybe a kennel.
Not sure though. My father in law is willing to come twice a day to feed them and let them in/out but he has to drive over everyday and its annoying me a bit though.

Why can’t you just bring your dog to your father-in-law’s house?

Why don’t you get one of the portable wire kennels and put it up over at your father-in-law’s house while you are gone. Then take the kennel down when you come home to get your dog.

This would be easier for you, your father-in-law and the dog would not be alone.

Anybody could walk off with your dog if you leave him at your house.

If you are considering boarding your dog while away, call your vet and ask him/her who they would recommend. Also when choosing a baording facility, I have always used one that did not set up an appointment to view their facility, rather one who’s policy is “to stop by anytime.” Facilities that have this policy seem to have more consistant standerds of cleanliness.

Just remember there are boarding kennels and then there are boarding kennels. It’s just like everything else, there are good ones and bad ones.
Kind of makes it hard to give you a good answer.
    Some suggestions;
Make sure your dog is inoculated for kennel cough.
Visit the kennels before you take your dog near the place.
Remember that oftentimes the cheapest isn’t the least expensive.
Depending on your type of dog is the facility indoor, outdoor, or both.

It’s convenient but it’s bad for the dog. They think its a punishment every time they’re told to go in the kennel, and they can become depressed, so i wouldn’t recommend it (first hand experience)

Hello. Kennels can be OK. I don’t use them my dog got kennel cough while staying at one so I use a pet sitter. She comes to my house 3 times a day walks my dogs plays with them feeds them that way they have the comfort of there home not in a cage. Also some vets do pet sitting so check with your vet or if you use a groomer you can ask them sometimes they have referrals of pet sitters.

I’ve seen some kennels that are really nice and others that aren’t. If they let you come in and look around without making an appointment, that’s a good sign.

Another idea (though I don’t know how practical) is ask your vets if they know anybody who would do it. I work at a clinic and whenever we have long-time clients that need a “pet sitter” one of the girls I work with always does it. It’s good both ways–they know her and she knows them.

One good thing out of your predicament is that your friend will probably NOT get a dog now. Once people find out that they take a little effort, they take them to the pound–so you may have saved a dog’s life.

    Good luck.

Hire a petsitter. My 12 year old dog used to get upset when I leave her in a kennel. Leaving a dog in their home is not only less stressful on the pet, but more convenient for you. Find a petsitter who is bonded and insured. Some charge by day, others by visit. Ask questions. Make certain that they are trained to work with all types of pets, administer meds, etc.

I would check out dog kennels and your vet. I boarded my dog with my vet he had a track and the dogs were out most of the day and there was someone their at night to watch them. I felt it was best at the time in case my baby all 120 pds got sick the doctor was on call.

I would not leave them alone all day and have my father in law drive over. Peace of mind and knowing there in good hands is worth the money.
