dog kennels

My mum is thinking of putting my dog in the kennels for a couple of days when we go away. My dog loves being with other dogs soo she thinks my dog will like it, But im just worried she will hate it. Does your dog like being in the kennels? Im thinking of taking her down there for the day and see if she likes it. Has anyone ever had kennel problems?

Also just to let you no what dog she is, shes a staff.

Thanks!

Great idea, my friend uses a kennel up to a week at a time. The dogs love it.

If we can’t take our dogs with us.. and that’s not very often… our good friend takes care of them. If she’s not available, then they go to a kennel that they LOVE to go to. We haven’t had any problems with kennel boarding. Good luck.

I’ve had the good fortune of taking my dog with me, or housing her with pet sitters. But here are some things to consider:

Visit the kennel before you go. Do they walk the dogs several times a day? Do the dogs get playtime? Is the kennel clean? Do they get beds and toys? Is your dog up to date on its inoculations, including kennel cough? Ask some current customers for references.

My dog loves his kennel. He just sleeps in there even when the door is open. Make the kennel a positive place. Feeding him in there is a good idea. Don’t have a negative worryed frame of mind with you put the dog in the kennel because they can sense that. At first he would bark while he was in there but after I corrected him by telling him no firmly he did stop.

My mother is a kennel attendant at an animal hospital. As long as you trust the place and it looks nice and clean go for it. If your getting bad vibes off the place don’t. It also helps if you meet the kennel attendant . If the kennel person loves animals like my mom then you will be fine. The dogs usually seem to like it if they are walked at least 2 times a day and to be fed and have something nice and warm to lay on and make sure the temp. isn’t too hot or cold. Hope this helped = ]

Our dogs really don’t seem to mind at all. We board at our vet’s office, which is indoors and they keep the dogs caged. They do walk them off the premises twice a day and they get potty breaks, though. They actually seem to enjoy staying there, I don’t know why! And they get kept in cages right next to each other so that they know they’re together.

My dogs love the kennel. They think its a big playtime vacation. Just make sure you check out the kennel first and make sure its clean and well maintained. the first couple times I took them I took one of their beds and a blanket of theirs so if they got homesick they would feel better.

I actually use a cageless kennel facility.
We got our Weim from the shelter at then end of January and he was soooooo depressed while he was there. Drooling and shoulders hunched….So I decided that for at least the next little bit we will be boarding him at a cageless place. They spend hours and hours determining the disposition of the dog and grouping them with similar dogs, so i felt ok with it.
We take him there for daycare when he needs a good romp, and we also use them for boarding for our vacations, etc.

He comes home and sleeps for days.

The firs time we did it, he came home a couple of pounds thinner too, but the woman had called me on vacation to tell me he was not eating well. She explained that this is normal the first time they are away from home.

I send him to daycare with lunch too, but I usually get most of it back. he gets so busy and so excited he doesn’t want to eat.

I don’t like to board my dogs, I have a petsitter come over to the house. She feeds, walks and plays with the dogs. They are relaxed because they are at home with their own stuff…
