yes you can get pet insurance. I don’t know where you live but in the UK we have lots of insurers such as the Kennel Club, Direct Line, More Than, Pet Plan, Argos, Tesco, M&S etc. They all offer different amounts of cover for diffeent things so check to make sure you get the best deal for your dog
I’m not sure what Chennai is? If that’s the name of the vet your dog is at then insurance won’t help you now. You can’t get it after the fact and expect them to pay. What you can do is contact a company that offers pet insurance and get a policy started for future need. Your vet should have a list of pet insurers that he can give you contact information for.
I have insurance on all my dogs for a number of reasons:
. * Vet bills (injury, accident, illness),
. * Loss (runaway, stolen, death),
. * Third Party Damage (like being hit by a porsche and doing damage to it),
. * Third Party Injury (like biting into other dogs, animals or people).
I don’t really find it financially viable for rountine vet expenses but it’s paid for itself in emergency procedures such as c-sections and leg operations (injuries sustained in herding).
However my dogs are at a higher risk than regular pets as we spend alot of time herding, competing and travelling (any given year I spend up to 120 days away from home at dog related activities) so the strain on their bodies is greater than the ‘average’ dog who’s chilling out in the yard 70% of the time. They are also part of my livelihood so I can claim it on tax.
Alot of the health checks that I do for breeding purposes are covered as well.
Here is the FAQ page for them.
Snce I’ve been insured some of the bigger claims I’ve made include one c-section, three cruciate ligament operations and major reconstructive surgery when one of my dogs was seriously mauled by a GSD. It has paid for itself.
