The cheapest I found for my particular dog a month was with Sainsburys for about £12. It has a £50 excess. No real knowledge of them otherwise as I haven’t claimed from them. Aside from that they pay out if she is lost, stolen or dies at all (providing it is before 8 years old I think it said). It was the pay out that sold it to me. Most don’t include death from illness.
we have insured our pup with the kennel club insurance we pay £23.95 a month it might be a bit expensive but it covers up to ten thousand pounds vet bill, other vets if the one ime under can not do anything for him, complimentry medicine and afew other things.you can get a quote from there website.
I swear by PetPlan, they aren’t the cheapest of insurers, but they will insure for the life of the dog as long as you pay the premiums.
I had a young dog who had multiple problems, had bilateral cruchet ligament repair at 2 (£1700), at the age of 4 he was diagnosed with lymphoma, I took him for chemotherapy every 3 weeks for almost 2 years.(He was a very comfortable and happy during this time…chemo doesnt make most dogs feel as ill as humans). This cost £4000 per yr of treatment, during this time PetPlan never quibbled over any of the bills, after I paid the initial excess, they took care of all the other payments
Pet Plan
You pay for what you get.
They cover for life.
Look at small print of all the companies you research.
The cheaper ones will come up with all sorts if you were to put in regular claims.
Pet plan has always worked out fro all my dogs, used them for last 16yrs.
I am with Direct Line. They are not the cheapest, but I have never had any problems with claiming from them. And we have claimed a lot! A couple of years ago my dog, Bosley, had a ligament tear in his back leg. Our vets could not find this straight away so we had to go to a speacialist, and he had an MRI scan. All this plus operation took up to nearly £4000. They did not quibble and it is so worth having.
He is nearly 13 now, and I pay £23 per month. I think it started at about £8 per month when he was about 2 years old.
I have upgraded my insurance too, max was previously £4000 per condition up to one year. Now it’s up to £6000 per condition over any length of time.
Read the small print carefully.
Dogs Today magazine have a really good insurance advisor and either this months issue or last month’s has a good in depth article about dog insurance.
Hope this helps.
I use national farmers union (nfu). The premium is good and the excess is £40.00. I have made three claims in the past two years and they have paid out straight away.
One claim was for prescription food and they paid out. The vet said alot of insurers dont do that.
