I got my dog Sept 10 of this year, with no papers. He was a gift and the person told me the lady they got him from is trying to find them. Its almost 3 months and I want to get my dog animal insurance but I can’t until I have his papers with medical history from his past. Is there anyway I can get new papers from a new vet without having to track down the stuff from the past? Just so everyone knows he is a purebred dog.
He’s also a 2yr.old dog

Yes. Many clinics offer a program of insurance where you pay a yearly amount that includes different things according to the plan you select. Banfield Veterinary Clinics which are in PetSmart stores do. Many individual Vets do. Just find a clinic that offers insurance plans and select the one you are interested in. Tell them you do not have a medical history for the dog. It doesn’t matter if you dog is purebred or mixed.

Purebred or not, it shouldn’t matter with pet insurance. I read the packet that my vet gave me, and it doesn’t make any mention of needing pedigree papers. The restrictions are mostly based on the age of the pet (old pets are usually ineligible to sign up, although you can maintain coverage started early in life).

It shouldn’t be a problem since he is so young unless there is a serious health issue. If that is the case they most likely will exclude it for a period of time. Take him to your vet for a health check and talk to them acquiring health insurance. If they know nothing about it or are unwilling to help choose another clinic.

If you are trying to get new pedigree papers on him, NO. You can not do that. If you paid enough for the dog, you paid for the Pedigree registration. If you didn’t pay that much for the dog, it is not likely you are ever going to see the Pedigree papers. They probably can not produce them and you have a nice looking dog that looks like a pure bred. But no cigar. Medical insurance for the dog, you don’t need the pedigree papers. Any vet will sell you a policy if the dog has a good bill of health. The younger the dog the better. The vet can determine the age close enough for medical insurance. You will never be able to show the dog or breed the dog with a Pedigree Papered Dog. That is not what you have.

Our pup isn’t purebred and we had no trouble signing him up without medical records. If you’ve adopted him and don’t have access, I don’t see why it would be a problem. I’d just tell the company that you’ve only had him for three months and don’t have access to his old information. The other option is just to find out the name of his vet and give the vet’s name to the company so they can have the records. It didn’t seem that complicated with the company we went with. They were really helpful.
