I have a working strain cocker spaniel puppy who is currently 11 weeks old.

I’ve been advised that some insurance providers do not cover working dogs. I’ve also been told that some cover expires after 12 months with no guarantee of renewal, and you may be cut off at the end of the year if your dog has developed a long-term illness needing expensive drugs or surgery.

Not really. A high-cost insurance would be about 50-60 per month, which would be much less than what is spent on a dog when he gets sick. Where an insect bite can actually run up to $500 and that would be just one visit.

I have a 4 month old puppy and I’m currently looking to insure her for future peace of mind -since I’ve heard of the high expenses owners might come to face in case of any future illnesses, accidents, etc…. With so many insurance companies out there and so many different types of coverages -one begins to just scratch their head out of confusion. I don’t get it, how it works. Since pet insurance is not known where I live in canada, I have no idea. To tell you the truth I had no idea pets even had insurance until I heard it from yahoo members. So I was just on vetpetinsurance.com or whatever, petplan whichever doesn’t matter. And it said like $30 monthly for pet insurance - I have a pom, thats 5 mthns. It covered everything! If you get in a vehicle accident it said $2000? do they PAY you $2000? and if they get an allergic or sick you get $150? And for any surgeries you get $2000. This doesn’t sound right, so basically their paying for your surgeries, while you pay $30 ? or something someone clarify to me how it works, and what will happen etc etc please & ty

Please let me know if you’re aware of any home owner’s insurance companies that do not discriminate against particular dog breeds. We don’t have a dog yet, but plan to get one in the spring. Two of the breeds we’re most interested in, Husky & German Shepard, are on the list of dogs many insurances companies inaccurately consider dangerous.

I live in California and have a 5 month old puppy. She is supposed to get spayed in a week and someone suggested that I get dog insurance because it may cover the costs. First off, does the insurance actually cover spaying, if so, which is the best insurance to get? I did a little research and seems like you have to pay about $20 more a month to be on a plan that pays for spaying, is it possible to get the better insurance for like 2 months then downgrade to the less expensive stuff or am I stuck for a whole year paying that price?

Does anyone know of an insurance company that will give health insurance for a 20 month old Bernese mountain dog which has been having problem with walking? I did not have to foresight to take out insurance when he was younger.

I took my two dogs to a local store to get shots, and while waiting in line there was a women behind me with two pitbull puppies in her shopping cart. As people started talking to each other while in line, she was asked if she was happy with the dogs. She then stated she was but was concerned about the dogs being aggressive. She had no idea they would breed with each other, even being brother and sister, or that they could be aggressive dogs, even though she said that they came from a set of parents that were bred for fighting… on top of the father killing the mother, and it being how she came to be the owner of the new puppies. Does this not scare anyone else? The women at one point asked what she should do when the dogs showed aggression towards each other, and was told not to hit them, that it would teach them aggression??? Is she not now part of there pack? .. and needs to show her leadership in the pack? I was scared for this womens future and she had children with her as well.
My question was ..do you think insurance would help with people getting pets they know nothing about? If this lady had to pay for these dogs would she have been so quick to just take them, knowing nothing about them at all? I’d hate to say just ban them, although I think they should, but then where would they stop at deciding at which breeds. This is why I think insurance would help people from making such quick decisions on just taking or buying anything out there. What do you think? The has to be a way to stop people from taking these pets and then they ending up bitting a child, or them ending up in the pounds.
