Dog Grooming

I have been trying to find out about learning dog grooming for a while now, and I am getting nowhere. I can only find very expensive on line sites…..that don’t put the dog in front of you to really get hands on and learn. I have a 12 yr old daughter, who’s heart and soul is dogs, dogs, dogs. We have 4 dogs in our family, all living indoors with us! My 12 yr old will sit with the dogs and a pair of siccors trimming their facial hair, paw pads, etc. She has a mild dissability and I know she could really succeed in life as long as she is doing something with dogs.I would love to groom myself, and would love to be able to teach my daughter, so she may become somewhat self-sufficient herself as she grows into her adult years. I am a home childcare provider, and cant afford to lose the income I am making now, but there has to be a way I can make this work for my daughter’s future. We are going to be starting volunteering at our local S.P.C.A. If anyone has any suggestions….I am all ears!

I’m the same way as your daughter. I LOVE all animals. I’ve worked with animals since I’ve been 16.

After working at several different vet clinics and a pet parlor, I thought about getting into grooming as well. It’s a little more hands on, without all the blood and sickness like there tends to be in clinics…

My best suggestion is to get a job working at a pet parlor. One of the groomers would be more than happy to train you. That’s how my mother became a groomer, and I’m well on my way to becoming one as well.

    It takes time

    Good luck
    Hope that helps :D

I will say that it will be extremely expensive to start out.
You have to get a grooming table, that can run you anywhere from $300 on up
Not to mention you’ll be needing different blades and such… very very expensive.

But you’ll at least get a start on it if you get a job working around other groomers. It’ll pay off

She can volunteer at a grooming shop/animal clinic. They will help her wish experience, referrals, training, ect.
