To whom it may concern,
Please Help Me !! I feel very very worried. My dog is a 12 year Collie male, yesterday, I brought him to the Dog Grooming shop for a bath & hair cut.
When I picked him up at 6 pm, I found out that his right rear leg cannot stand straight !! He can only walk with his other 3 legs !!
The dog barber said that he accidentally cut his skin little bit, and he said he already stopped the bleeding. I asked him do I need to go to bring him to the vet. The dog barber said no need to do that, it is only a skin cut. At that time, I checked the wound, it seems about 2 cm, and stopped bleeding. That dog barber guy said that it is because he is old, and that’s why he cannot walk very good !! However, when I walked him to the Grooming shop in the morning, my dog walks normally and he is good !! I feel really sorry for him and cried a few times……
Today, I found out that he cannot still walk with that right rear leg !! I think today is even worse !! He hardly can stand up stable. He can still walk to the food and water, but with very big difficulty. He cannot stand straight with that right rear leg !! I feel really really upset, however, I do not have enough strength to hold him to the car. I think it us totally my fault that bring him to that bad dog barber. I think he is really in pain……
What happened to him?? I really don’t know what that dog barber guy did to him !! Please please help me !! My email address is: clshaaw@sbcglobal.net

Take him to the Vet. If the dog walked fine before going to the groomer then something happened there to hurt him. I mean more than a little skin cut. And charge the vet bill to the groomer. After all the dog was fine before the groomer got him.

go to the vet. report the barber in the police. what would you do if someone cut the skin of your leg. the dog must be felling very painful and he cannot walk. pity man.

Call the dog barber and tell him you need to get your dog to the vet and need help. threatened to sue him, if he won’t send someone to help you get him in the car..
the barber handled hm too roughly, and caused an injury..He needs to accept responsibility and pay for it..If you go to the shop, then take someone with you, so you have a witness to verify the man’s poor behavior..Meanshile, you can wrap your dog’s leg with a very warm, moist towel..That may relieve some pain so he can walk..
this site has help to understand pain control for your dog, and what meds can be used..>-%20Muffy%20continued

Is your “dog barber” licensced? He is not a Vet so you should not take his word for it that your pup is okay. You should definately take him to the vet. Also you can buy a special harness that will help lift his front or back half whichever end is hurt. If you can’t take him to the vet at least call the vet.
pet edge will probably have the right harness for your dog.
If it is his back leg there are also wheelchairs.
But if he seems to be walking okay then he may not need these but you seem to feel that he is in pain.
And if you can’t get him to the vet some vets do make house calls. Sorry to hear your pup is having problems.

I think you should take your dog to the vet to get him checked out. You could also call the groomer and ask if anything happened … any struggling or jumping around.
I don’t think the small cut on the leg is the cause for his lameness now, but the lameness could have been caused by something else that happened there. Sometimes standing for a while, or laying down the wrong way can cause problems.
I would take him to the vet to find out what happened, then call your groomer and let them know what’s wrong, and if anything that happened there could of caused it.

Something called vet……the barber dosent want you to go because the vet might tell you to sue him..i say just take him to the vet like normal people.

something happened there you need to take your dog to the vet. maybe he fell or something else at the barber and the barber is no going to to tell you if anything happened. Go to the vet asap and stop trying to guess.

It can be that he is seaking for attention, because it is a realy old dog, and maybe he has something els like tic bites? because they like make the dog that they don’t get any blood, and the blood gets scares in the dogs body, but if he still eats normal it must be fine, and dogs are realy sensative on these legs, i think you should take him to the vet, let a friend help you, because they could have cut a nerve or something, and dog legas are like realy thin! so i think that would be the best selution of doing! because it can catch up other illnesses!

Take your dog to the vet. Usually when people tell you not to take your pet to the vet, its because they know they did something wrong and they don’t want you to find out. Ask the vet to write on paper exactly what is wrong with the leg. They usually do this anyways. Then take the groomer to court and sue him.

omg poor thing…bring your pet to the vet because there can be infection…chances are they’ll just give an antibiotic cream or maybe oral meds like Clamavox they can’t stitch it because it’s been 24 hrs and the bacteria that’s already in the wound will just get trapped if they stitch the wound. Keep the area clean and HONESTLY, THE GROOMER SHOULD PAY FOR THE VET BILL…keep the receipt and tell them to reimburse it and possible give you a free groom session or your money back for all of the inconvenience…
i hope your doggy gets better.

As a groomer myself, I know of injuries like skin cuts and slits. But if in any way the dog is impaired, this is wrong! If your dog was not injured beforehand, and you had informed the groomer of his age-this should be reported. However, if your groomer is not a licensed groomer it may not do any good. Taking your doggie to the vet is the best bet. Doing so, immediately afterwards can help you get a case against the groomer for unsafe practices and vet bill expenses. If your groomer is licensed get his licensing number to go along to the vet’s and see what you can find out. Filing a complaint is what needs to be done!!! I do not take this lightly. Bad or unlicensed groomers have giving some of us a bad reputation. Next time, if you decide to take your doggie to a groomer-PLEASE ask if they are licensed! Hope this helps and good luck.

take him to the vet and see what the problem is… it may just be that because the dog is old, the cut might hurt more than normally

This is simple I am a dog groomer. First if you look at the cut and it isn’t very deep its not the cut. There might have been an accident that the dog groomer did not tell you about. maybe since the dog is old it slipped and either was not recognized or brushed off by the groomer. Have you checked the pads are they okay inbetween sometimes a dog can favor a leg if the pads have been nikked or a nail has been cut too short. I would talk to your vet you should take your dog in they might have to xray the leg. Dont feel bad you don’t know what happened. As a groomer i have seen terrible things happen and have had to report abuse before. I’m not saying it was abused and i’m not trying to scare you away from getting it groomed because its very important for a dog like that to get bathed and trimmed. And just because your dog is well behaved at home or another groomer said it was okay doesn’t mean it does excellent for grooming so please consider that too. I know very loving dogs that bite clippers or are so scared they accently walk off the table. Grooming is not easy and if the dog isn’t still its very easy to nik a dog (i was trimming a pek-a-poo nose once and it just took one lick of his lips and they got caught in the scissors when i was trimming his nose and i nikked the tongue, it was nothing serious but this is an example) and i’m a very patient, good natured, professional groomer. Was the dog on a table? Did it land on the floor wrong jumping off the table? I don’t think its the cut and since i have cut dogs by accident before i never heard of that happening. I think the dog has spranged its leg or maybe there is something more to the story the groomer didn’t tell you. Ask your vet.

I agree that you don’t have all of the information. Something else happened. It sounds like the dog jumped off the table, or the cut is worse than you think. Could he have nicked the bone? A vet can feel the dogs joints and tell if it is a sprain or cut or even a fracture.
If the groomer works for the vet as they do around here, I would go to a different vet. I would choose one out of town that would be less likely to be friends with the groomer/vet. (we live in a rural area and that is the way it works around here)
I would never go to that groomer again. He was not honest. If he would lie about that he is no one to do business with.
If another vet indicated that the groomer was at fault, I would go to small claims court and sue the groomer.

I would take photo of the wound and take the dog to the vet.
And file a complaint against him. Did he charge you well don’t pay him it his job not to cut your dogs skin.
Next i wouldn’t take my dog back to him
