I groomed for several years before becoming a SAHM. I was bitten once while training, but it was the instructor’s fault…not the dog’s. I miss it and would like to return eventually.

I was in the grooming business for a while(five years). I was bitten a lot ( at least once every couple of days)but that is because the groom shop i worked at was for trouble dogs, cats and exotics. We did the animals nobody else wanted to. The cats are the worst about biting.

Yeah you get bit, and it can be frustrating at times, The people are worse than the dogs though. but its also very rewarding. It is a physical job, and you need patience, but it can bee fun

I’ve been a groomer for 15 years. And I still love what I do!

Being a groomer is not playing with dogs all day like some people think. It’s not easy, it’s back breaking, you have to deal with difficult dogs, dogs that bite, dogs that wont hold still. Pee, poop, fleas, ticks. Matted dogs. You need to know about equipt maintenece, shampoos, skin problems, breed styles, health issues, the list goes on and on and on….OH… And owners who think we are mind readers and miracle workers. But, I still love what I do! lol

In the 15 yrs I’ve been in the grooming biz. I have been bitten twice. Once was a beagle who got my finger when I was doing his nails. The other was a mini Poodle who I was drying. He got the muzzle off and got my hand. Neither bites broke the skin. But I have known some groomers who’ve had some serious bites from dogs and cats.
How many dogs have TRIED to bite me?? Countless!! I just put a muzzle on them and do what I can. If they are too bad…I’m not dealing with them…off to the vet they go to be sedated and groomed there. I will not put myself at risk to groom someones untrained dog.

ditto on everything ny groomer had to say. been grooming for about 8 yrs and still luv it! clients become good friends and u form bonds with their “furry babies”. i luv the creative aspect and the freedom in this business. u can work for a shop or vet, work from home or go to people’s homes. you could do it as a side job or grow to multiple locations and maybe compete someday. right now almost all my client’s and dogs are awesome, but when i worked in a shop we got some kinda mean ones. i only got one bite worth really mentioning, but those times pale in comparison to the joy and gratification u get from the average dog/person u see. u’ll have ur “bad” days in any job.
if ur interested in grooming i would highly recommend going to a school versus trying to do an apprenticeship like some people. my only regret was that i wish i had gone to a highly accredited school like nash academy instead of the only one in my state. :/ i like to go on groomertogroomer.com - u can read more about grooming and speak with other groomers thruout the country. good luck! ;)
(btw i’ve groomed at a vet also and u CAN come across the worst of the worst here - the vets themselves sometimes aren’t such a joy to deal with also lol i’ve spoken to others who can concur)
