My dog is very dominant in general, with people and other dogs. Sometimes, when we sit together, he does to me (my legs, feet, trousers or arms) this grooming thing they do to themselves, when they clean themselves wit their front teeth. I would guess it is a sign of caring for me, but he won’t let go when I tell him No, the more i try to stop him the more stubbornly he does it, so is it perhaps a way of showing dominance over me?
He is neutered by the way.
He had obedience training. He normally stops whatever he is doing when I say No to him, but not this specific thing! That’s why I am curuious what it means!

i would think that it is dominance over you because my dog use to do that before i took him to the vet and asked the vet what was wronge with him. he is was used to you and he just cant let you go. he might just need a female dog in the house. try getting one.

It could be dominance, or that he considers you a member of his family or pack.
He doesn’t seem to realize that you’re a human, and he needs to treat you with respect.
If he won’t stop, you’ll have to smack him. Sorry.

It means He loves you and he is glad that you own him. The dog feels greatful for having a nice owner like you so he licks you.

It considers you the leader of the pack and shows you affection to earn your favor.

Hahaha, maybe he just thinks you are dirty, or likes the texture of your pants. My dog used to do that to my blanket.

he is showing you that he loves you, and by doing that he is showing that he is dominate.

Yes it is a way that dogs show dominance. You need to do a few things to stop him from doing that or you may have other problems as time goes on. One way is do not let him sit on the same furniture as you and do not sit on the floor with him. When he comes near you do not pet him unless he is sitting. This will show him he must do what you want to get a reward. If he starts licking that is still a sign of dominance so that should not be allowed. When leaving the house do not let him go in front of you and when you let him in make him sit right out side the door before you let him in. Same with feeding. Make him sit before putting the food down and then don’t let him jump up and eat have him wait a secound til you let him eat. These little things can start to show your dog who is boss. Most dogs do not want to be boss they just instictivly take over if we let them. I would suggest a good dog class.

Dogs view their owners and families as members of their dog pack, not as human beings who own them. When your dog is trying to groom you, he’s doing it because you’re a member of his pack in his eyes.
However, if he’s disobedient to you, you’re going to need to take him to obedience school to teach him that you are the “alpha-dog” and that he must obey you. Especially if he’s doing this to other people, it’s really time for obedient school. You didn’t say how old your dog is, but even old dogs can become good dogs with training.

The truth is your dog thinks of you as the Alpha.
My dog does this with me every day because he thinks I’m the alpha-male of the pack. That, to him, means he has to care for me and make sure that I’m in good shape. It’s not really annoying once you know why they are doing it. It’s kind of flattering in a way. It’s not about dominance, it’s about affection and your dog thinks it’s his/her job.
