How much would you pay for mobile dog grooming?
08 Aug 2009
I am researching business opportunities. This is something that my area does not have and could potentially be a huge hot item.
Doesn’t matter where you are, how much would you pay for someone to bring a full service van to your house and groom your dog right there in that van in front of your house? We’re talking 45-60 minutes and your dog pops out clean, trimmed and ready to go.

Can you help me with some dog grooming tips?
07 Jul 2009
I recently got a dog from a neighbor. She is a husky mix. She told me that she could not control her when she tried to groom her. She also had no leash manners. It did not take very long to teach her how to walk on a leash. Much to my surprise, I have no trouble with brushing her fur. She seems to really enjoy it. The vet showed me how to clip her nails and brush her teeth. He had no problem doing this, but I do. What could I be doing wrong?
How much does dog grooming cost?

I am considering getting a bichon frise. I understand that they need to be professionally groomed once a month and that they need small touch-up trimmings between then around the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. I want to know how much it costs to get a small dog groomed at Petsmart, and do they do a good job there?

What are the best, affordable dog grooming scissors (mine dull in weeks) and where do I get them?
10 Feb 2009
With everything rather shoddily made in China now I can no longer find decent pair of scissors, among a host of other things. I remember when they were virtually handed from one generation to the next in perfect repair. I need good grooming shears. The Swiss ones while up to the old standard can run over 100 dollars. Has my dollar devalued to the extent that I can only afford things from slave labor world. Good Scissors, help.

Weird dog grooming question…?
11 Nov 2008
My mother and I were watching a show that went through the process of dog grooming and they had a step on the show that was about “popping poop” or removing excess liquid poop from the dogs butt, b/c apparently this step in the grooming process in important to the dogs health so that they don’t get infections or illnesses. The real question is if this really happens when a dog goes to the groomers. I have a shih tzu, who is 7months old, and she has never been to the groomers yet and my mother just wanted to make sure that it was a safe process of the whole poop thing, even if it is or isn’t true. Please answer to the best of your knowledge.
I know this is such a weird question and I know I may have worded it wrong, but I hope we just get some answers!
Thanks!
DOG GROOMING COURSES advice pleas?
31 Oct 2008
Im fed up with my 9 to 5 office job. I would like to learn a new career of dog grooming probably from home. Has anyone done any courses for this, is it better to attend a course or work from courses offered on CD. The course costs are quite high I see does anyone know the amount I need to outlay for basic equipment etc. I would have to take into account shipping costs as I live outside of the EC and you cant even get a dog muzzle in this Country let alone grooming equipment. They only have the odd pedigree in my Country really but the English do adopt strays and Im sure there is the need for this service and I dont know anyone else doing it here so I wouldnt have to be a MASTER at the craft if you understanding my meaning.
Addition
If anyone is reading this in Southern Cyprus please can they supply me with telephone or emails of Dog Beauty Parlours where I might be able to have hands on experience. Preferably close to Nicosia.
dog grooming ?

I have what is supposed to be a bichon/shitzu mix. He is 6 months old now and his coat is a very fine and pretty thin. when he is wet it becomes so transparent he looks bald. I have seen others of this mix and they have a thick beautiful coat, his looks pretty fluffly but nothing like it should. It mates very easily I must brush him daily. It seems to have stopped growing and I am afraid it is to fine to cut short. I am adraid he will look bald. Anyone have any suggestions. Does anyone else have this mix with such a shortage of hair?
I have been trying to find out about learning dog grooming for a while now, and I am getting nowhere. I can only find very expensive on line sites…..that don’t put the dog in front of you to really get hands on and learn. I have a 12 yr old daughter, who’s heart and soul is dogs, dogs, dogs. We have 4 dogs in our family, all living indoors with us! My 12 yr old will sit with the dogs and a pair of siccors trimming their facial hair, paw pads, etc. She has a mild dissability and I know she could really succeed in life as long as she is doing something with dogs.I would love to groom myself, and would love to be able to teach my daughter, so she may become somewhat self-sufficient herself as she grows into her adult years. I am a home childcare provider, and cant afford to lose the income I am making now, but there has to be a way I can make this work for my daughter’s future. We are going to be starting volunteering at our local S.P.C.A. If anyone has any suggestions….I am all ears!

Dog grooming…?
12 Sep 2008
So my terrior shnauzer mix is going in to get groomed for the first time and because it is a 3 hour visit, I’m going to be leaving her with the groomer. This makes me extremely nervous as she was an abused animal and gets very skiddish around new people. (I won’t even leave her alone with a vet!) I know I’m crazy, but she’s been through so much I don’t want to start over with her. What are some things to look for that would tell me the groomer will be okay with her and to tell me that I can trust her with my dog? I just don’t want her to be rough with her or get impatient. Please help!
Won’t the groomer get mad about checking in on her? I don’t want to make her mad and she take it out on my dog. I know I’m paranoid, but my dog means everything to me!
dogs still remember…since taking her from the man’s home she has seen him and freaks out when he comes close, especially to me. Oh and I should mention muzzles are not an option so you get a thumbs down! Muzzles are for animals who you think will bite! Shame on you!
Dog Grooming…..?
31 Aug 2008
i have recently taken on the challenge of opening a business. i named it Paw Pals Pet Care, and i offer dog grooming services and house/pet sitting services. i was not too thrilled with the name i came up with to begin with, and now i am also looking into offering dog services (i.e. dog walking, delivery of pet necessities), so i’m interested in changing my business’ name. the best thing i’ve come up with so far is “the paw shop”, but i’m open for suggesting.
How does one get into dog grooming?
28 Aug 2008
What is up with that? I don’t think there is such a thing. Most dog grooming shops train their employees on the job. I think she has an averision to college. She wasn’t a good student and was home schooled very poorly later on. Wouldn’t it be best to go to a community college to get started with the basics with some computer courses? At least an Adult school with occupational training? That dog gooming thing is not versatile. It doesn’t stretch. Her family is not much help. They’re misinformed and on the ignorant side. Please help.

How much do you pay for dog grooming?
18 Aug 2008
We have a black lab. He’s a big dog, but very easy to groom. He actually LOVES getting wet and all the attention. For a while, I did his grooming. For a while, I was commuting 2 hours and generally didn’t have the time. I was making good money, so the $75 didn’t matter. Now I’m closer to home and the $75 does matter. Calling around, I got prices of $65 to $90. Does this seem high? Maybe I should become a dog groomer, as this seems like easy money.
What should i call my dog grooming place?
14 Aug 2008
I am an experienced dog groomer in a big city thats growing everyday. There are NO upscale grooming salons and I think with all the rich people here, it would do great! I have the knowledge to run it, just not the money. I would need about $100,000 to cover the rent, utilities and all the supplies needed. I would be willing to do just about anything to make this happen! I think this business could easily turn into a franchise!
To whom it may concern,
Please Help Me !! I feel very very worried. My dog is a 12 year Collie male, yesterday, I brought him to the Dog Grooming shop for a bath & hair cut.
When I picked him up at 6 pm, I found out that his right rear leg cannot stand straight !! He can only walk with his other 3 legs !!
The dog barber said that he accidentally cut his skin little bit, and he said he already stopped the bleeding. I asked him do I need to go to bring him to the vet. The dog barber said no need to do that, it is only a skin cut. At that time, I checked the wound, it seems about 2 cm, and stopped bleeding. That dog barber guy said that it is because he is old, and that’s why he cannot walk very good !! However, when I walked him to the Grooming shop in the morning, my dog walks normally and he is good !! I feel really sorry for him and cried a few times……
Today, I found out that he cannot still walk with that right rear leg !! I think today is even worse !! He hardly can stand up stable. He can still walk to the food and water, but with very big difficulty. He cannot stand straight with that right rear leg !! I feel really really upset, however, I do not have enough strength to hold him to the car. I think it us totally my fault that bring him to that bad dog barber. I think he is really in pain……
What happened to him?? I really don’t know what that dog barber guy did to him !! Please please help me !! My email address is: clshaaw@sbcglobal.net
I am interested in dog grooming as a profession. I did a 1-summer dog grooming internship and enjoyed it. I did some grooming and a lot of watching.
Next, I talked to dog groomers and heard many complaints. Most say that they are way to busy and have arthritis or some other problem from working with their hands all day.
I would like to here opinions about this job from actual groomers or those that know a lot about the industry. Will I be dissappointed like so many others? Would dog training or boarding be a better career choice?
I have a 6 year old male Shih Tzu. Everytime he goes to the groomer he gets scared and he growls and snaps. I had a groomer before that could deal with him, but I have since moved out of state. I have tried every groomer in the area where I live now, they either wont groom him at all or they call me in mid groom and say “Come get him, I cant work with this dog.” Or they charge me about 100$ over the normal price because they said he acted bad and took up to much of their time. So I have been forced to face the fact I am going to have to do this myself. I bought a dog grooming kit with shears, brushes and clippers. But I am confused about something, do I shave the dog before the bath? Or do I give him a bath, dry him then shave him? Or should I bathe him then shave while his hair is still wet? And please dont tell me this breed does not need to be shaved, I know that, but he just isnt happy when his hair is long. Any info and tips will help alot, thanks!
