All of the foods listed above are horrible foods!!! Rule of thumb if it comes from the grocery store it is crap!!!

Pinnical, Canidea, Natural Balance, Wellness, Innova these are just a few good ones

    1. If the food has corn in it stay away from it. Corn is a cheap filler that is not digestable by pets or humans.
    2. Stay away from food that have By Products or By product meal or meat products. The reason they do not tell you what it is, Is because it is all the left over crap and nothing good.
    3. Stay away from foods with soy in it. Dogs can not digest soy.
    Hope this helps

ADDED: As said below talking with your vet about dog food is really not the way to go. Vets learn alot about health and treatments but the only class they get about dog food is very short and not all that informative. If you look at lables and the information above it really should help you make the right desesion for your dog. I would never feed my pets anything that I do not concider healthy and that would include all grocery store foods.

All mentioned above is commercial food that is not really healthy for dogs. Please visit

Commercial food like Purina and Iams use fillers and additives that are not good for the digestive system.

    Good luck

The best food for your dog is one that meets her health and nutritional needs. Nobody can access those for your dog but you.

We give our shih tzu Blue Buffalo. Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula (dry food) does not use animal by-products and their gluten-free recipes do not contain any artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Their food also does not have corn, wheat or soy, which have been known to trigger allergies.

You can go to the website: and read more about the products they have. You can also request a free sample (and a $3 coupon) so you can see if your dog is going to like it before you buy a larger bag.

Their treats and canned food were on the recall list so I don’t recommend those. But the dry food has been good for our dog… her breath is less stinky then it was when she was eating the food the vet gave us.

You can also check this website for higher quality foods:

Oh geez, are those the only choices? Out of those I’d probably say Purina One, but they all suck. Kibbles and Bits is awful, you might as well feed your dog a bowl full of sugar and the rest aren’t much better.

I feed my dog purina 1, but blue buffalo is the best

I’d go with Purina one or Iams. If your pet has a sensitive stomach, skin, or other issue these and other brand’s like Science diet, can offer specialized products. Always go easy when switching… mix them together to maske transition easier.

Eukenuba - they make small breed and large breed. I too have a lab and a chihuahua, and that is the brand I use. I buy food about every other month, and it’s usually about 50-60 dollars. This is one of the best dog foods on the market - their hair is shiny and soft, and they have great energy, but not tooooo much energy if you know what I mean.

I have a black and tan chihuahua and I feed her pedigree little bites. She loves it and my vet says she is a very healthy chihuahua. I also would not get Ims just because of the food poisoning that went on a little while ago.

well for my dogs( lab pitbull and boxer pitbull) i give them nutro max adult natural nutrition but i would thing that the ones that are adult would be to big for your TAN CHIHUAHUA . but they have them in difrent flavor and types, lazy, actice, over weighht, to active, small dogs, big dogs, and they say there weight so it would be easy to pick, and for normal dogs, buy if you are giving them the wet food the use pedigree. some people cook there food you can cook chicken and rice very healthy( no seasoning)

all of those are GARBAGE. CANIDAE is what you want. little kibbles AND healthy. reasonable cost for real ingredients so you’ll feed less.

none of those brands are good. maybe canidae, merrick innova, just dont ask a vet, most of them dont learn much about nutrition.

Rule # 1 if it has Corn in the first 7 ingrediants than please do not buy it. If you have a costco card I highly recomend Kirklnd it is cheap and great for dogs I did a ton of resersh when I got my dog. Plus always make sure their is no meat meal in it that is road kill and who knows what else!

Sometimes I hate reading the responses to questions like this. But at the same time, did you hear about all the food recalls for the foods you listed? My dachshund/yorkie mix eats Nature’s Recipe, my mastiff eats Science Diet j/d for joints, and my dachshund eats Kibbles & Bits. So what. All of my dogs are still alive and are healthy.

Your best bet is to ask your vet. He can recommend the most beneficial foods and will tell you what to stay away from. Any response to this question will be given a bad rating if the person reading it does not like the response or the food that is being recommended. You’re gonna feed your dogs what you want and what you believe will save the most money, but when talking to your vet tell him this is what you’re looking to do and he can give you advice as to what will fit your budget and what would be healthy for the dogs.

None of the above. Canidae is a great dog food that is good for any size or age dog. All of the dog foods listed are of pretty low quality. It also isn’t too expensive - about $39 for a 40-pound bag, which should last you quite a while.

Check out. It gives you an unbiased rating system for every type of dog brand out there.

When you look at a dog food bag, look at the ingredients. There should be meat ingredients in the top 4 (they’re listed in order by weight). You should also not see any low-quality grain sources, such as corn and wheat, because dogs can’t even digest them properly - dog food companies just use them as filler!!!

On a high quality dog food, less is wasted (like corn and wheat) and therefore the dog’s poop is smaller (funny, I know!)

There are as many good brands as bad brands out there. So far you have been given a list of some very high quality foods, so take a look at each one and make the best choice for you and your wallet. I, personally, used to feed Flint River Ranch which is an awesome food but it got too expensive for my budget. I am now feeding Nature’s Recipe Lamb Meal & Rice. It has no beef, chicken, corn, soy, or wheat (all of which can cause allergies). It also has no by-products or fillers (which is just garbage) and no artifical preservatives. The great thing is the price - I get it at PetSmart for $29 per 40lb bag. For me, it’s a quality food at a great price.

The best food you can feed your dog is Wellness but it is VERY expensive. From looking at your brands I’d say you have a low price range. The best food you can get in that price range is, Diamond Naturals. Which is what Kirkland band dog food is. Do you have any costco’s near you? It is $16 for a 30lb bag of dog food there and it is MUCH better than what you are feeding. Don’t feed food from regular grocery stores, none of those brands are any good. Here are some great brands if price doesn’t matter.
    Wellness
    Canidae
    Orijen
    Taste of the Wild

None of those foods are good. They are full of fillers and non-human grade ingredients. Please check out my page on natural pet foods for a list of great foods and more info:

good foods : solid gold { what i feed }, natural balance, Merrick { they have canned and dry }, chicken soup, Newman’s own, innova { innova evo is the best } , canidae, wellness { wellness core is their best }, Artemis, blue buffalo, avoderm, and of course the ..barf { raw } diet. any of these are good . bad foods and companies : ol-roy { the worst }, purina and alpo { anything they put out }, science diet, iams, and eukanuba. any store brand or generic food is crap also. the good foods, just compare them to the bad foods. look at the ingredients..you will see. fillers??? science diet uses …GROUND UP PEANUT HULLS !!! rendered animal parts or by-products…BEAKS, HOOVES, EYEBALLS, EUTHANIZED ANIMALS, FEATHERS…!!!! not what i want my girls eating. kibbles-n-bits ??? known as the..TWINKIES.. of the dog food world !!!! if you do some research on the dog foods through the different websites or dog publications { whole dog journal is a good one } you will get the lowdown. i like solid gold, because of the good food they put out, and it has never been on a dog food recall !!! it does cost more, but the dogs have a better coat, they have smaller poop { terds } and it does not stink as bad when they poop. good luck, and please stay away from the ..bad foods…your dog will thank-you for it. oh, the person who also mentioned taste of the wild….it is new and a great food also. !!!
