Dog Food?!?

I have a 7 month old part terrier part curr i believe….I have only been feeding my dog diamond puppy food since i’ve got him i got him when he was 2 months old…should i feed him table scraps or like the canned dog food?? been feeding him the dry food all this time. This is the first dog i have ever owed so i’m trying to make sure i’m feeding him correctly. Any thoughts?
another question…what “trouble” diamond had?? someone told me it was the best??

Don’t feed him scraps. Not only will he quit eating dog food, some of the crap we eat is bad for him.

After the “trouble” Diamond had, I will never feed that food again!!!!!!!!
Yeah..firing a few people will be a lot of comfort for all the owners of the dogs that DIED from the bad food.
There were aflatoxins in the food. They are deadly at high levels and killes several dogs and who knows how many other are dealing with acute liver failure. The company knew there was a problem and did not act fast enough to save many dogs.
Diamond never was a GREAT food. It was mediocre.
I would never feed a food from a company that handles a problem like that so badly!!!!!!!

the dry dog food is better for them as long as you get the right kind for his age. table scraps are ok every once in a while but, NOT all the time.

If your dog will eat them and you have some boneless scraps, or canned dog food that you want to feed to your dog, it should be ok. You want the food to be a supliment since puppy food has a lot of nutrition your dog needs, but every now and again give the dog a treat.

I do feed my dogs some table scraps, but I’m pretty careful on what I give them. (Meat, naked pasta, etc.) Scraps are treats - they eat dry dog food for their “real” food.
The trouble is, if you feed them from the table, it’s very easy to inadvertently train a dog to beg while you’re eating - not very appetizing. If you’re not into training your dog to behave regardless, you probably would be best to not start with people food.

Don’t feed your dog any table scraps because you will turning your dog into a beggar dog, and after a while he will stop eating his food, sit by the table and watch you eat until you cave in. Don’t give him in canned food cause it’s bad for his teeth (plaque, gingivitis), his stool will be soft and not formed (you’ll have difficulty picking it up), he’ll only want that after a while, even if you mix it in with the dry, he’ll end up licking the wet food. Can food goes bad quicker so you can’t leave out for a few hours. If you dont’ feed him the entire can and just put the rest of it in the fridge, every day that you take it out bacteria will grow inside. you can’t feed your dog the canned food straight from the fridge, it has to be room temperature, cause if it’s too cold, he will have an upset stomach. Stick with the dry and only the dry, what he doesn’t know (cans/scraps) he won’t miss.

I’d keep him on dry dog food, and have a nice bowl of water ready always. The dry food will help keep his teeth clean better than canned. Don’t get started with feeding him scraps. He’ll beg, try mooching of plates, and be getting into the trash. If he knows he’s not getting people food, he won’t be so eager for it. And spices in people food are bad for dogs.

Don’t feed your dog table scraps. It simply isn’t good for him, and like someone else said, he will stop eating his dog food. Canned food is fine, as dry food. You can mix the wet with his dry if you would like. That is up to you.
If you are still concerned about your dog getting proper nutrition, you should talk to your vet. He/she will be able to give you better advise than anyone here.

There is a recall on Diamond pet food. In one reading, a woman whose dog was eating this brand all the sudden developed severe internal problems. And although her dog didn’t die, she has to force feed her dog with a syringe now.
So yeah, think about switching brands.
If you really care about your dog, you should consider getting premium quality pet food such as Innova. See the link for info…It also contains other good pet food brands.
These brands contain ingredients that are healthy & nutritious for your dog. It is pricey but the long term effect with choosing any of these brands such as Innova is very positive. Your dog will be healthy, have good coat, teeth…not gasy etc.
Now if you stick with supermarket brands, Walmart or any of the big chain pet stores such as Petco, PetSmart etc…, then, I will tell you that the ingredients are questionable. It does read well on the package, however, it is deceiving you. If you see the word “real grade” chicken, meat or fish etc….It is not real meat. We’re talking mystery meat here. And the smell, it stinks…ever notice that dog food when you open the package has that smell? I can easily tell you that brands such as Innova or any in the link suggested, does not smell. Where can you buy them? At a health (or homeopathy) pet store. I’m sure there’s a link in there to tell you.
Table scraps….Well, he’s only a puppy. So stick with premium quality pet food. If you want to feed people food, you have to do your homework to determine what’s good for your dog. But in the meantime, stick with quality pet food.

Diamond had a recall at the end of last year. The problem is fixed now. They are probably the safest food out there now. The problem was in the corn that they were using. Now they fired a few people and have new testing procedures in place.

Because Diamond uses LOW quality ingredients that are not fit for humans, they had to recall some of their products because they were contaminated due to the grains in the food. This is something that normally only happens to companies that produce low quality foods with low quality ingredients because there is no control over what goes into the food.
Here are the typical ingredients in the Diamond Adult Formula:
-MEAT MEAL (this is literally “roadkill”. It is any rendered animal that is not fit for human consumption. So it could be euthanized cats and dogs, horses, porcupine, cows, pigs, etc. the company uses the term “meat” to hide the true nature of the ingredients)
-GROUND CORN (corn is a cheap filler with no nutritional value and often causes skin allergies in dogs)
-WHEAT FLOUR (no nutritional value and causes skin allergies in dogs)
-CHICKEN FAT (this is not bad on its own but because there is no other nutrition in the food adding chicken fat just makes it worse)
-CORN GLUTEN MEAL (this is the starchy residue that is leftover when corn is processed)
-BEET PULP (cheap filler)
-CHICKEN FLAVOUR (no nutritional value)
-EGG PRODUCT (egg shells and undeveloped embryos/eggs not fit for human consumption)
-SALT (should NEVER be added to dogs food)
-vitamins and minerals.

Animals are so much like humans in the fact that a healthy diet and exercise will prevent the deadly illnesses that they face. Use your common sense. When you see things like “by-products” “corn” “animal/meat” you know that the company is using questionable ingredients and only has money on its mind.
If you truly care about your pets health and want them around for a long time, you need to provide your dog with a nutritious diet. I’m not sure who would tell you that diamond is the best food out there but they obviously don’t understand pet food nutrition.
