You have an honest to god Wolf? Alrighty then! Your dog WILL eat his food even if there is no wet food mixed in with it. I pampered my boy like crazy and spoiled him to the point where he would not eat kibble on it’s own until l wised up and realized I was the issue, not him. I left his kibble out for him dry for two days….he sniffed at it as if I had insulted him for two days, but on the third day, he ate it greedily and I have not had an issue with him since. A dog will not starve himself for long—-when they’re hungry, they will eat! Stop spoiling him….a good quality kibble is all that is necessary for him to stay healthy.

Dogs won’t starve themselves. Leave out his food for 15 minutes. If he doesn’t eat, take it back and offer it again at the next meal. Don’t add anything like canned food because he’s basically training YOU to do what HE wants. If you continue to give into him, he will realize that waiting just a little bit longer will get him better things. It’s called tough love!

Alpo is not a good brand, either.

If your spending all sorts of money on a high quality food WHY would you throw that out the window by mixing sugar, and perservative full garbage on top? I haven’t read up on Alpo lately but I recall them using BHA at one point in time as a perservative. BHA has been banned in several european countries as it is a carcinogen.

If you want to feed canned - get the premo stuff.

    Or… Here’s a cheap alternative.

Go to the grocery store and buy a carton of low sodium beef stock. 32oz of swanson costs like 1.99 (WAAAAY cheaper than canned food.) Pore that over his food instead. Tastes great, it’s cheap, and way healthier. Canned Tuna also makes a good stand in for canned food. Or raw egg. Low fat cottage cheese and yogurt is good too.

If he’s on canidae he can go a week without eating, he’ll give up eventually. I have a dog that pulled this crap with me and I let her do it for waaaaay too long. When I finally took the advice of some knowledgeable friends and let her not eat…. She gave in around 9 days… she wasn’t in the best health to begin with anyway so I bet your dog could go longer.

Don’t give in. If you have to, add a little wet food, or put warm water in it, making it a big deal and “special”. Don’t put alpo on there though! Your doing good on the canidae, that’s a waste of money if your going to put alpo on top of it!

Several of the high quality foods make canned foods as well. If you only do a spoonfull a bowl a can will last you a long time.

Damsel has some wonderful ideas as well. If you look in my Qs you’ll see what everyone told me….

Don’t starve your dog to death because he doesn’t like dry food.
Just mix an inexpensive canned food with his dry food.

Try food from the radiantpet website. Our dog loves that stuff, it’s like chocolate for dogs. I think they’re going to have wet food out soon.
