Dog Food???
13 Jul 2008
We have been feeding my dog Blue Buffalo dog food for a while now. It is a newer dog food that is very rich in omega fatty acids (look it up for all the details). It is a great dog food. My dog is a shedder and the food helps. but… it is very expensive. We can no longer spend 12.99 on a small bag of dog food now that we have two dogs. What is a comprable brand that is good for shedding dogs and that isn’t as expensive as Blue Buffalo but is still very healthy?

There are lots of good premium foods out there that are high in the omega fatty acids. I always found Nutro Natural Choice to be an excellent fairly priced dog food. You can always get a food supplement instead of buying top dollar foods. Brewers Yeast tabs are great and so is Dr. Maggies. Both should be available at any pet store near you.

I like Nature’s Recipe…I get Nutro when I can..but when I am low on money I find this to be pretty good….no fillers….no beef corn…or soy… so its a pretty good one and runs about 6 dollars for 5lb…
hope that helps

Buy the big bag, it’s usually cheaper to buy the larger bag.. Switch to something like Canidae.. Great food and not expensive like some of those other foods. Dogs eat less, do better and it’s a quality food.

my dogs eat the Pedigree dog food. they like it, but they still shed. all dogs shed, some more then others. it depends on what type of dogs they are. i would use some type of special dog shampoo that helps shedding. i’ve heard that that was supposed to help a lot. i think you can get it @ like Petsmart or petco (i recommend Petsmart ; ) ). Hope this helps!

That is a good food that your feeding your dogs.
Go to this link and look for something more affordable.
Try to find something in the 4-6 level.
I feed my dogs and cats Chicken Soup for the dog/cat/kitten/puppies lovers Soul because of it’s affordability and availability in my area
Do not get anything from a grocery store. Pure crap! No Pedigree, no Purina, No Iams, etc. GARBAGE! Proplan is garbage too. Guess people don’t look at the ingredients.

Hi! I too have a dog actually i have two, but thats not important for my one dog we usually gat him Proplan. It is a great dogfood and my pup loves it. It is very healthy for your dog too, plus it doesn’t have gluten in it which causes problems with your dogs health. It is an Okay price i think it is 7.99 for a medium bag, and i think the large bag is around 17.99.
Hope you find the right food!!

I purchase an inexpensive dry dog food and I add to it. I boil up a whole chicken and debone it, dice up a couple of carrots and add them too. I have a dog that had seizures and as soon as I started giving him left over grease drippings his seizures stopped. I have a Chow Chow too and the shedding lessened when I added the drippings. I also add tuna packed in water they love it. All 4 of my dogs are large and healthy. I measure all the dogs food to make sure they get their caloric needs. I used to feed them expensive food but found that a 40lb bag for $11 and my own ingredients were much cheaper.

I think Canidae is a very good quality food for cheaper than blue. You would have to get it at a feed store though. If you are looking for a food from petsmart or petco , I would choose Natural Balance at petco. You cant get a big bag for 35 bucks or so. They also have a frequent buyer plan, once you buy 10 bags i think, you the next one free. You can also email them and they will send you coupons.
