How do you feel about dog clothes?

dog clothes

While putting on a warm coat to keep your pup warm, is acceptable, have you ever just bought a t-shirt for your pup? I’m seeing so much available for dogs, it is hard not to resist! Do you do holiday pictures with “antlers”? What do you think is acceptable?

I think they are so pointless. Especially if you live in a cold country, the cold messse up with them growing a winter coat.

I think they are ridiculous but hey
someone is actually making a living feeding off of people’s vanity to buy thier dog a coat!

    thats what fur is for!

i think it’s adorable!! i love dogs and thing it’s the cutest thing ever….HOWEVER…from a marketing aspect the pople who are making these clothes, COACH collars that cost $200.00, hair bows, dog bracelets, etc are making a killing and laughing at the dumb people who over do it. i definetly think that it’s acceptable to buy an accessory or clothing for you dog…HOWEVER it can definetly be over done too!! but..if i were the person making the money off the idiots i’d keep coming out with new ideas!

I have a miniature poodle and I dress him up in little t-shirts and when it is really cold outside I do put a little coat on him in addition to a t-shirt, I also have bandanas for him to wear.

I think they’re cute, but unneccessary. i’m impulsive when it comes to buying for my pets, though. Even my ferrets have t-shirts.

I think it looks pitiful for the dog and contemptible for the owner who would do something so asinine.

although I have never bought any clothes for my dog I have bought a sweater for my grandma’s dog… she looks so cute in it… I was gonna by her a holiday party dress but I figured she would just chew a hole in it… wanted to take her to get pictures with Santa to give to my grandparents for Christmas but it didn’t work out…

I think that if you want to dress up your dog more power to ya. But if the family pet has more clothes than you, then you have a problem.

Oh how cute your dog is! I think it all started for me when I watched “Legally Blond”. I don’t have a dog right now, but I looooove dogie clothes and someday when I get a new little baby dogie I’m going to dress it to the 9s. I saw a whole Isle of dogie clothes at Target lately. Very adorable. Maybe I’ll get an “I Doggier” and dress that until I get a real one, LOL. Yes, I like all that other stuff, too.

Remember this… A dogs body temperature is roughly 102 deg. Ours is 98.6… Smaller short haired dogs may need some extra cover while outside but as for fashion? I’d laugh at you as you walked by for being so pretentious in thinking that your dog looks cute or cool. Dogs do get embarrassed. After a trip to the groomers, I make sure that no one makes fun of the dog because they know when they are being laughed at… Trust me, Your dog will love you more with a new toy rather than a silly t-shirt. It’s pure vanity and the makers of these clothes know that there are millions of suckers out there and will gladly take your money…

I don’t see anything wrong with dressing up your dog, if that’s what you want to do. As far as I’m concerned, it’s very acceptable. I dress up my five Chihuahuas, all the time, and they really seem to love it. There are so many cute clothes and accessories that you can buy, and they look so cute. I would say, go ahead and have fun. Why Not?

I feel the same way about Dog Clothes as I do about People Wearing FUR!
Besides, your dog will get ridiculed by it’s friends for wearing such things. What next, a handbag?

If the dog enjoys being dressed up, then it is fine..just silly…but dogs like to be silly, as it gets them more attention..and you know what dogs like MOST..attention!
My nieces used to dress up their two dogs, daily, and put them in a baby buggy, to go to the Post office and get the mail.. their dogs were always excited when it was dress up time!
However, if you have a toy breed dog, without a lot of coat, it will need a sweater any time that you do..
Larger dogs need a sweater, if they are slick coated, and kept indoors most of the time..they will get cold just as you do when they go outside..
Dogs appreciate rain gear… My dogs hate getting wet..but I only ‘gear-up’ my little one..
However, if your dog hates getting dressed, then it is not fun for either of you..

My dog is a miniature pinscher and she hardly has any fur.

The other day I walked her outside for a few minutes so she can pee/poop and she ended up shivering so bad (5 minutes). Another time was that we were walking to the pet store (15 minute walk) and she ended up shivering the whole way. You can plainly see that she’s cold.

So I bought her a sweater (some polo shirts) and she has booties (only for snow her small paws can’t take it and she ends up limping back to our door also for the salt on the sidewalk). I think it’s tourture when it’s 20 degrees outside and my dog is freezing. She does look cute in it too. I don’t think she hates it. She prances around sometimes.

So why not. It’s purely the decision of the dog owner. If someone wants to laugh @ me for that then so be it. In the end their opinion isn’t what matters.

God gave animals their own clothes by giving them FUR. I think dressing dogs is just ridiculous personally, I know everyone won’t agree with me but it is my opinion. While I think raincoats and boots are acceptable and I can understand not wanting the wet dog smell or muddy paws when returning home from a walk and coats for tiny dogs like chihuahuas in the winter because they get cold so easily, t-shirts and stuff like that is just dumb. For pictures like the antlers at Christmas is cute and since it’s only for a moment for a picture, that is fine - we put a new years tiara on my Mom’s Golden for New Years only long enough for a pic. I think the clothing industry for dogs has just gotten out of hand!

If I had a Lab or a Retriever or a Husky or some other large breed dog, I would not put clothes on them other than rain gear. (Dogs
don’t like to get wet either!) or depending on the activity boots. (I live where there is LOTS of snow and ice!)

However I have a miniature Dachshund SH BT and a Chinese Crested HL. Guess what, If I need a sweater, so do they! If it’s too cold for me to go outside without a coat why is it warm enough for them? I think it’s cruel not to adequately dress your dog for the weather. I fully support providing any dog with things to keep them safe, warm, and comfortable!

If you are one of those people who put fluffy little dresses and Tux’s and such on your dog, it’s you I will be laughing at not the dog!

Unless you have a dog with very short haiir(chiuhuaua) Iwould say the dog should be kept warm but otherwise I think it makes a dog look rather stupid. Imagine,a jack rusle terrier in a tu tu? OH PULEESE!!! Jan

Well with little dogs its cute but there are outfits I have to think twice on besides I wouldnt spend more on my dog then I would myself or my family I have a pitbull though so the only thing I bought her was a Jacket cause she does get cold, she is a inside dog so she isnt use to being outside when its cold out.

I think they are great! Whether to make you dog look cute or to keep him/her warm. And yes, my dog as three outfits. One t-shirt and two sweters. He loves them!

I am in the Chicago area and the wind here gets COLD! My gf has sweaters for our 2 dachshunds because when we took them outside, they would always shiver and not want to do their business. Dachshunds also have a very short hair just like a boxer. They can’t grow their winter coat because they do not live outside. The sweaters seemed to help them deflect a lot of the wind to help them be a little warmer. So I say that the sweaters worked and clothing for dogs is not always for show.

No holiday pictures with antlers! I do put sweaters and sweatshirts on my pup in the cold weather she loves them and waits patiently to get dressed. I probably will get her a t-shirt or 2 for the springl she is only 5 months old now.

LOL I’m probably not the best one to ask….I don’t have kids, so my dogs have become surrogate children. I have purchased a few items for one of my papillons, but the only things we ever really put on the pups is their down coats and booties. (We live in central Alaska…the down coats and booties are a necessity!)

I think the clothes for dogs are cute I have a Yorkie and she has a couple of shirts, a hat ,and a couple different collars she doesn’t seem to mind wearing them I wait till I can get them on clear acne I don’t pay much for them I definitely would not be buying a coach collar etc.. for my dog that’s were it gets little weird if your dog’s items cost more than your clothes you definitely have a problem,But other than that have fun with your dog I don’t see anything wrong with putting a t-shirt on your dog. Or a coat

dogs are not toys or doll’s they don’t like to get dressed in silly dresses, xmas trees.
It is acceptable to put a warm coat or waterproof on him/her but that’s it. No silly coats, yes there are lots to chose from, please just look, and don’t make your dog a fashion accessory, these outfits restricted the blood flow in the legs, its cruel!

I think it is up to the owner and the breed of dog..My puppy has very short hair & when i take him outside..(We live in New York)
He shivers like crazy. And he hates it…… So yes i went to target & bought him a coat & a few sweaters.. All boy colors!! Talk about a differant puppy.. He can now focus on his business & not b sooo cold……..I think it is an owners responsibilty to protect their pet & if needed keep them warm in winter wear.!!!!!!!..
