Patterns for home made dog clothes???
18 Jun 2008
Does anyone know if patterns are available for dog clothes. I would like to pay a seamstress to make dog vests for my dog with pockets to carry stickers, and small what nots for kids that approach her in public. I know I can buy them but I want custom ones that are taylored just for her specifically…
She is being trained for therapy work and I want her to get use to vests in case we use them for future endeavors.

A friend of mine makes dog clothes… she will make them to the size of your dog. She has alot of different materials to choose from too. She can make them into harness vests as well.
She might add pockets if you ask

Joann sell dog patterns from all the major pattern companies. You can search their catalog. You can also get them on ebay, other links…
there are also free patterns…but you should still do your own measurement. I used the pattern below…the strap the go over the belly was too long…My dog has a greyhound body…deep chest smell waist.

If you want them tailored and custom made to fit your dog PERFECTLY, then ask your seamstress if she’ll come to your home and measure your dog! Find a seamstress that loves dogs, I’m sure they’d be happy to do it, or to let you bring the dog in to their place to get measured.

no, but but there are pattern kits for copying clothing already made.
also every dog is different = many many different sizes and shapes… so i would do everything hand tailored. oh and stretch breathable fabrics might be helpful.

I’ve made little outfits for our Pugs from the first two links … there’s lots of patterns out there on the Internet. I haven’t purchased any patterns to make dog clothes but McCall’s, Vogue and Simplicity all have patterns for dogs.
Good luck

I make custom dog clothes and my dog, Wally, writes a blog at. I can make something for you or you can do a search for free dog cothes patterns in addition to using the patterns previously mentioned. For instance, you can go to for a pattern that you can adjust for size and then add pockets. There are other free patterns as well.
If you’d like to give me some of your dog’s stories for Wally’s blog, I’d like to read them. Wally is always looking for new ideas!
