Are dog clothes unhealthy?
19 Jun 2008
Please help settle a disagreement between my girlfriend and I. I want to buy clothes for our dog, she says no because she thinks it is unhealthy for him. She says it would tamper with the ways he maintains a normal temperature. I say clothes will have no effect, and will help keep him warm on cold winter walks. Your opinion?

It won’t harm his health! If he’s got short fur it might be a good idea on colder days.

No. It isn’t unhealthy, though as someone else said, if you aren’t careful with your shopping, it can hinder his movement and thus he won’t like it as he’ll have trouble walking.
The worst offenders I have seen are those sweaters with actual leg holes, as they seem to bind them at the front legs. The best I’ve seen are those that leave the legs free, and have a strap that wraps around the front, and another that wraps under the belly.

depends on what will u wear on your dog..what breed is your dog?does it has full long coats or just smooth?Chinese crested and chihuahua are legal to wear clothes esp during winter,,they are weak in cold..clothes makes them warm..if u have long coated dogs its also not advisable because it can cause matts, breaks and tangles on coat..could add heat too..never thick fabric such leathers on bulldogs, pugs, chows etc..they are prone to heatstroke.!remember always consider the fabric,cuts,comfort-ability and season when dressing your dogs. esp their coat types…..
