I have to admit I have seen some pretty outrageous dog clothes. I am, however, guilty of putting polar fleece and sweaters on my pins in the winter time. If I don't, there are days that they just refuse to go outside and do their business. They don't do well in cold weather.
I am completely repulsed by the "wedding dress" on the pug kind of thing, though. Yuck!

I work in a dog-grooming salon and am the owner of a tiny Maltese. As a dog owner living in a cold place, I admit I have a few sweaters for my dog to wear when I take him to outdoor events, especially at night. I do this because his fur is so silky thin that it can't really lock in heat and keep him warm. But, as someone who works with dogs everyday, I can tell you that dressing up your dog can cause damage. There's a client at the salon that dresses her dog up CONSTANLY. Her poor dog has developed skin problems because he cannot produce the natural oils needed to keep his skin and coat hydrated. We've told her to let her dog's skin breath, but she just doesn't seem to care about her dog's skin.... Just his wardrobe.
I believe putting clothes on dogs is ok, but only to a certain extent.

OK, I don't actually see a "question" in your question, so I'll just tell you what I think.

If the dog needs a sweater or a coat for protection from the weather, fine. For walking on salted sidewalks in the winter, boots are fine, too.

Dressing up a dog for the sake of fashion is simply human vanity. It's a reflection on the owner, NOT the dog (cripes, they don't dress THEMSELVES!), and personally, I don't like it, but hey, it's not my dog.

I do have a nice collection of bandanas for my dogs. They wear them once in awhile, for example, at dog-events or other community festivals.

I put a T-shirt on my dog once, just for laughs, and within 5 minutes he peed all over it, so, never again!

I live where it is cold and I have dogs that have very little hair and body fat, they LOVE their clothes! Clothes on a hairy dog is kinda stupid, but if the owners get some kind of kick from it, whatever.

Dog owner - Umm....hairless dogs come from places that are HOT? Kinda like the nordic breeds with their big thick coats come from places that are COLD? LMAO!!! Form follows function.

I don't really care for it when people dress their dogs up all the time, but I will put mine in a costume for Halloween just long enough to take a few pictures. My mom has a dog that is cold all the time and she puts her in a sweater during the winter to help her stay warm. I think if it is for warmth or if the dog really likes it then why not. Know matter what people do there will always be someone telling you that your wrong and try to show their opinion down your throat, but as long as your dog is healthy and happy then who cares what they think.

I agree with you. If your pet is uncomfortable in the clothes you make them wear, I don't think that is fair for the dog. But most dogs that I know like to where a t shirt or sweater when they are cold. My dog has a very short coat, and we have a hoodie to keep her warm. She loves it because it keeps her warm, and we only put it on her when she goes outside, so she associates it with going outside. I don't see any problem with it, just as long as you don't take it too far, to the point that your dog is miserable, or that you are making them too hot.

I put a sweater on my puppy when it is cold outside, its a loose fitting sweater and I don't think she minds it. I don't care if people clothe their dogs, just as long as it isn't in the middle of the summer, that's just cruel.

Do you have a specific question?

I think that it's not right to dress up your dog 24/7 like a doll, especially if he/she doesn't like it, but dressing up for warmth or special occasions like Halloween or Christmas seem fine.
