Personally I like the larger breeds. If you don't mind shedding, a Golden Retriever or Lab would be nice, they're great with kids. Also I own a Springer Spaniel mix. Springers are great dogs who love the water (most do) and they're quite affectionate. Mine is a soon to be certified therapy dog. If it's your first dog, I suggest you get a mixed breed... they're the best! Save a life of an innocent puppy from a local rescue shelter. Puppies are often best when getting from a rescue (not to bias against older dogs...) but the older ones can sometimes be abused..

My advice is, get a mixed breed. Any dog can be trained and brought up in an environment where they can adapt. Mixed breeds are generally healthier, they stay hyper even though they are old, and much more.

I hope you find the perfect dog!

i have two labs and they get along great with kids. also, their goal in life is to please so they always make you happy (ecept when they are puppies and haven't been potty trained) but ya so they would make a great pet.
Also, golden reitrievers are almost exactly the same!

jack russell terrors are very good with kids. have you ever seen the tv show fraiser? eddie the dog is a jack russell terror. go to the pound / animal shelter. you probably can find a mixed breed that is just as good with kids. they will let you spend some time with the dog before you take it home. besides some full bread dogs have issues that go along with the breed. do an online search. just type in the breed of a dog, and learn about it.
