Well it all depends on what type and size of dog you want!
Here is a really good site with a dog breed selector. You can select what you want from a dog and it will give you breed that will match your requirements!

    Good luck!

how about using a dog breed selector quiz to find out what dog best suits your life style?

if not, then here is a great website with info on each breed

Go to the AKC website and you will be able to see all the legitimate breeds and their descriptions - then you make your own decisions as to what you like.

There are no bad dog breeds, just a matter of good breeding and responsible dog ownership.

There is no good or bad breed, it depends on how they fit in your lifestyle. For example long haired dogs need more time from there owner to have there coat groomed, large dogs need space, toy dogs need gentle and caring owners because there fragile, it’s very broad, the choices….

Take some time to find a good dog breed book at barnes and nobles or Borders, or even check one out at your local library. They list almost every breed, common temperment, size, Needs, etc.

The AKC site can give some good basic info on expected size and temperment, too.:

If you know a dog your interested, contact a responsible breeder of the breed and if the breeder is repsonsible (and has time at the moment you call) she will give you info and want to make sure you are the right home for one of her puppies if you consider buying one.
Shelters also try and find out about your lifestyles before you adopt, too, and often have you fill out a form for the dog your interested in.

why don’t you go down to a shelter and see the puppies there.

breed has nothing to do with temperament of a dog, same with playfulness, or loyalty, etc.

you need to go to dog channel.com or some kind of web site to see what fits your needs, and wants along with the dog. We got a boxer she is great, has to be right beside you all the time. Wants to play all the time, and can not take the cold or heat. There is alot of info out there that you need to read to make sure you have the time and money to take care of a pet
Also depends on where you live, house, apartment, etc. If you own a home some insurance companies won’t cover your house if you have certain kinds of dogs. Do your homework on everything, also if your city requires city tags, no teter law, certain dogs are banned.

A German shepherd. They are loyal, devoted and very protective of their families. They’re very athletic dogs, good at obedience, agility, frisbee catcging or just you throwing a stick or a tennis ball for them in your yard. They need a lot of exercise and will become destructive if you don’t play with them, as is any dog. They’re very smart and quick learners. They LOVE to please their mistress/master. You must be firm and strong. Male shepherds have dominance problems and will constantly fight their owner for dominance. Shepherds are VERY strong dogs, we had to get a harness for ours, he pulled my shoulder out of the socket atleast twice! Both sexes are protective, but female shepherds are more so than males. Female shepherds aren’t as goofy as males, but males can be more affectionate towards their owners. Overall, a very good breed, but you must be experienced with large dogs. Good luck!

its all depends on you lifesyle

if you have kids.. a beagle a boxer a lab a basset great danes are good
but then you have to think if you have the proper room yard space time for exercise money feed the larger ones

if you a active person who has the time and etc get an active dog
if you livge in an apartment or house plays a factor too
if it just you and are looking for a smal companion but dont want a lg breed that doesnt need much room too roam
you might what a york a chiuanua beagle are good in this case too also a toy aussie just to name a few

if you active and want a smaller go for a jack russ. a rat terr a boston bull dog or even an itlaian great hound are good

I love all dog breeds and I believe they are all good in their own ways, and some don’t deserve the bad reputaion they are given. My favorite dog breed is the german shepherd, they are loyal, cute, third smartest breed, easy to train and if properly trained they can be your best friend. I also like poodle, labs and border collies. The border collie is the smartest breed of dog, they are friendly, playful, and energetic but I must warn you that they must have something to do to burn that energy other wise they are known to show aggresion. Labs are altogether nice dogs their easy to train friendly, good w/ kids and other dogs. Every dog has its own thing that makes them great! Good luck in fining a puppy, its always exciting :)
