Dogs Behavior Problems

Some sorts of dog behaviour problems have been encountered by most people who have owned a dog for any length of time. It’s very easy to react inappropriately to common problem behaviors such as chewing, biting, barking and other undesirable things your dog may do. You might have no experience with dogs and are looking into getting your first one, or maybe you already have a dog that has began exhibiting these kind of problems. The first step in fixing or avoiding common dog behavior problems is to understand them fully. Undesirable Barking
Just about all dogs will make noise of some sort, barking, whining and howling are frequently used to communicate in canine society. However, when this barking or howling starts to disturb the neighborhood you’ve got a behavior problem on your hands. You really do need to figure out why your dog is barking to begin with before you can correct the problem.
Once you know this you can start to get the barking problem under control. It will require a steady, continuous effort and much patience on your part. Destroying Furniture, Shoes and Other Possessions
You must understand that dogs are designed to chew, it’s naturally part of their makeup. Of course, if your dog is destroying things, then the natural behavior has morphed into a problem behavior.
Provide chewable toys for your dog so he can satisfy his chewing tendencies in a harmless way. Be sure to keep you own items that you don’t want chewed up out of your dog’s reach. Confine your dog to a safe area where he can’t do any damage when you have to be away from the home. A sharp noise can be used to deter you dog if he is caught chewing on the wrong sort of item. Then give him a chewable toy in place of the object on which he was chewing. Getting your dog an adequate amount of exercise can also cut down on problem chewing in addition to a host of other behavior problems.
Digging Up The yard
Digging is also a normal instinct for many dogs, but one which can cause a problem for homeowners. All dogs will tend to want to dig, but there are dogs like Terriers that were actually bred for this instinct to be even stronger.
You may find it quite unnerving if your dog is digging holes all over your yard. You first have to find out why your dog is digging, then try to get rid of the cause. Sometimes simply providing your dog with more exercise and engaging it in fun, instructive activities like training can have a positive effect. Another option is to give your dog a special sandbox or other area and train it to only dig there.
Separation anxiety is really a disorder that shows multiple behavioral problems as symptoms.
A common dog behaviour problem is anxiety caused by separation from its owner. This is an entire host of problems that will manifest when you’re not around, including everything from excessive barking or whining, chewing on inappropriate things and even destroying things around the house.
This type of problem will need you to dedicate real time and effort to advanced training techniques. If your dog’s anxiety is too severe you may even need to get medication from your vet.
5. Unsuitable Defecation and Urination
Possibly the most frustrating of all canine behavior issues is that of inappropriate elimination. This is when a dog urinates or defecates where it is not supposed to. It can cause damage to furnishings and floors in your house and make it so you can’t take your dog with you to public locations or to the homes of your acquaintances. The first rule in dealing with inappropriate elimination is to consult a vet to be sure that there are not underlying medical problems causing the unwanted behavior.
Puppies, especially those less than twelve weeks old, will have a certain amount of inappropriate elimination due to their level of maturity. With full grown dogs though you may need to look into behavior modification and other training techniques as this is a very difficult behavior to correct once it has been learned.
