Why Dog Obedience Training Is So Important
31 Jul 2010
You have just brought home your new little puppy. Dog obedience training is the farthest thing form your mind. For sure you know that you will need to know how to housetrain your dog but that should be simple enough, after all, he is a very smart dog.
You can happily see just what your life is going to be like together now that you have a new best friend. In your mind you see you and your pet running free at the park and playing. There will be no need for a leash because your dog will stay right by your side and you will take him where ever you go.
He might even be a best friend to your daughter or son. They will run and play together on hot summer days the way a kid and his best friend are meant to. Life is going to be great!
Then reality sets in.
Your perfectly behaved dog will absolutely not relieve himself outside and loves lounging on your couch. You find yourself wondering “How to keep dog off furniture“?!He is now too good for the kibbles and bits you try to feed him and instead rummages around the counters to find better fare. Your new carpet has become a digging haven.
You had no clue what it really meant to be dealing with a teething puppy.Never mind that you bought him plenty of bones and toys to chew, the sides of your favorite recliner is the perfect chew toy. He is constantly barking at everything including his own shadow and your dreams of owning a well behaved dog are vanishing.
So what in the world do you do know?
Well you can’t get rid of the blasted dog because even though he is a monster he has the saddest eyes that he stares up at you with when he’s in trouble. He really loves you and you are really fond of him too.
If only that silly dog would behave (even a little)!
Well the answer to your problem my friend is dog obedience training and I’m not just talking about taking him to a dog training class a handful of times and hoping for the best. Dogs need constant training to get well behaved but it is not as hard to do as you might think.
Dogs really love to please so when you two finally figure out how to properly communicate and he knows what to expect, he will go out of his way to make you happy.
