Top Tips For Training Shih Tzu Dogs

Since they are a companion dog, Shih Tzu training can be conducted to much like other companion or toy breeds. Certain breeds are generally kept for their companionship and/or beauty rather than their work ability. Work dogs are increasingly popular as family pets as well, however.
Because Shih Tzu are companion dogs and not used for work, typical Shih Tzu obedience training is fairly straightforward. Show dogs, however, will require special show-related training.

Puppy potty training is another important component of training Shih Tzu dogs. Like many smaller breed dogs, Shih Tzu generally need to go potty more often than larger dogs. Potty train a puppy the right way as soon as you bring them home in order to hopefully avoid an accident in your home.
Puppy Potty Training Tips: Perhaps the most important thing to remember when it comes to puppy toilet training for Shih Tzu dogs is that you need to be patient. For some puppies, it can take 7-10 days for them to feel at home in your home. And it can take at least that long before they are thoroughly potty trained. Keep in mind that you should never strike your puppy. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to hold your temper when you just stepped in a pile of poo your pup left on your new living room rug. Shoving your puppy’s face in “it” will NOT help you potty train your puppy. Training your Shih Tzu can be exasperating at times, but remind yourself that it will only be so for a couple of weeks. Hitting puppies and older dogs does nothing good for you or your dog. The best Shih Tzu dog training techniques will never include hitting or other mean actions. Also, a great way to help prevent your pup from waking you and the whole household up a million times a night is to avoid giving them food and limit their water intake for a few hours before bedtime.
