When your dog jumps on on the couch, get him by the collar and pop his behind, and physically make him get off the couch. Once he is down, tell him what a good dog he is for getting off the couch, even though you helped him get down. If he comes back, repeat the same process over and over again until he gets the message. You will be surprised at how fast he will learn.
It is very common for pet owners to scream, yell, beg, bribe, cuss and anything else that they can think of when they are learning how to stop a dog from jumping on furniture. This might work on a temporary basis, but your dog will keep coming back until you use a language that he understands, and break this bad habit the right way.
Another technique that you might want to try is a squirting your dog with a water bottle when he jumps on the couch. Dogs normally love water but they do not like being sprayed with water. Make sure and tell your dog “no” and avoid spraying him in the face or eyes.
Always remember as well to make sure that you dog has a blanket or bed of his own that he can go to. Dogs like to be warm and cozy too. Make sure and tell him what a good dog he is and reward him for going to his own bed. He will get the message very quickly.
Pet ownership does not have to ruin all your belongings, and that is why a lot of people don’t own pets.
