There are many allergies that our puppies and our dogs can experience from their food or the environment. We feel badly when our puppy or our doggie is miserable from these irritants.

It takes time and effort to discover the cause or causes which affect our puppies and doggies allergies. I am sure you have tried many medications as I have used, and now we are probably both ready to try home remedies to bring relief to your pet’s grief as well as mine.

The most common allergy among our pets occurs in their skin. Just as our skin is the largest organ on our body, likewise the largest organ on our pet is their skin. The first line of attack by unwelcomed bacteria, viruses, and fungus is the skin which represents a banquet feast for these critters.

Do you see your puppy or doggies scratching chronically? Do you hear them wheezing? With my doggie, when he lies flat on the floor he snores as loud as my husband. When he falls asleep at the end of the sofa where his head is propped on a pillow his breathing is very quiet. That’s a respiratory tract allergy.

Do you find yourself wiping drainage from the eyes of your dog? Did you notice a rash in the ears of your pet or on their skin?

Do you see your pet dragging their tail seemingly scratching their bottom across the floor? This could be a bacteria, yeast or parasitic infection. I have observed that there seems to be a correlation between bottom scooting and an ear infection. Have you also noticed that correlation?

You have to become a detective. Look around your house, lawn and garden, and more. Try to isolate what is causing the allergic problems.

  • Do you see fleas?
  • Are your pets allergic to their food?
  • Are there air pollutants such as dust, mites, fumes, chemicals?
  • Do you have a mold issue in the home?
  • Are there other critters in your environment that your pets might have an allergy problem such as, cage droppings from rabbits or birds, bird feathers, hamster, etc.?
  • Are there plants, grasses, weeds, or pollen that may be causing problems?
  • Are furniture or home fabrics causing irritants?
  • Are there chemicals in the carpeting, flooring, painted walls, etc.?
  • Is your pet allergic to you? Or allergic to your perfumes, hair sprays, deodorants, etc.?
  • Are they allergic to certain doggie medications like flea powder?

My dog has chronic ear infections which have been occuring since he was a puppy. And his symptoms include constant licking of his paws. It is hard to imagine that ear infections are considered as allergies. Eleven years have passed and I do not think there are any chemically made medications that can cure his ear infection.

Now, I too, am looking at home remedies for dogs and cats to bring relief to my pets.
