You may find that dog food aggression is one of the bigger problems to be faced with your pet. It is the most commonly failed behavioral test in shelters and it is one of the biggest problems plaguing pet owners. There are many things you can do to solve dog food aggression and many reasons why your dog might have it in the first place.

If your dog is a puppy you can start to deal with this early on. Give your new puppy his food and occasionally and randomly reach down and take the bowl away. Praise him for waiting nicely for you to return the bowl. This is a dangerous task with a dog that is already aggressive, so do not attempt it if you are past the prevention stage.
If your pet has been in situations previously where it has met with abuse,then its dog food aggression might be understandable. However, just because they were once hungry doesn’t mean that they now have the right to get aggressive with you, your family, or your other dogs. If you see your dog getting tense around food when there are other people or dogs around, you should remove the food immediately and put procedures in place to deal with it.
Do not tolerate or encourage behavior such as growling or aggression towards people. Always feed your dog away from children and teach children the need to respect the dog’s space. Make feeding time a stress free time for the dog. If the dog knows that the food is coming from you, they feel more secure so try taking them to one side to a quieter area and feeding them small amounts of food whilst there.

Keep children and all people food away from the dog. If your dog is aggressive it is particularly important that he understands that the food your child is eating is not his. Always supervise meal times as children can tease a dog with food with serious consequences.
Avoid giving mixed signals. Dog food aggression can be a serious problem with extremely serious results. There has to be consistency in food training As time goes on you will notice a difference as he learns that you are in charge and will give him his food, he doesnt have to fear that he will starve
