When you get a new dog it brings with it excitement and fun for your family but there is one major worry for dog owners and that is the issue of potty training. It is a very important task you must accept when you get a new puppy. If you don’t manage to get this done properly you will see the result in spoilt furnishings your rugs and even your bed. The foul smell of messy puppies has the habit of spreading everywhere around the house. If you potty train your puppy you can overcome the problem at a stroke.

Dogs are quick and intelligent so it is obvious they won’t want to be dirty and they want to learn potty training quickly. Start out knowing that you need to be very attentive to any signs given by your dog when he needs to empty his body wastes. You can be pretty sure that the potty area is required if your puppy is going in circles while he sniffs the floor with his nose. Understanding what these signs are and what they mean are half the battle when potty training a puppy.

It can become a chore to open the door each time your dog displays signs of needing to pee so having a doggy door can make life a lot easier. Puppy doors are a great way to make your life easier and also help your puppy potty train himself.

An excellent method to help potty train your dog is to have a regular routine of going for walks both morning and in the evening. When you get to somewhere that is appropriate for your dog to pee or poop linger a little while to give him the chance to relax and if he does then you should praise him.

It is important that you praise your pet when he urinates at the designated place. The more encouragement he receives when he gets the place right for his ablutions the better he will remember next time. Mistakes will happen when your puppy leaves it too late to try to get to the right place so show you are disappointed but do not be tempted to punish him in any way. Your dog may be nervous about what is the right thing to do so you should reinforce the good things he does and show disappointment when he does wrong and slowly you will potty train him.

While the training is going on, ensure that you keep an eye on him at regular intervals. Dogs are quick to learn but sometime that may not be fast enough for you and your patience may be tested. Training your dog for anything means you need to show love and affection towards him.

It can be rather tedious constantly watching your dog for when it needs to visit the designated potty training area. Potty training will prove it’s worth one day when you realize that your puppy is house clean. The smell of untrained puppies will no longer linger in the air and your house will feel clean once again.
